Default 110 racing fuel usage

say you get to the track on an 1/8 or 1/4 tank. can you put a gallon or two of 110 in, or best to just use some octane booster. This would be for a stock application.

Probably no benefit in a stock application, and many racing fuels above 100 octane are leaded anyway. Octane boosters you can buy off the shelf raise your octane one point. That'* POINT one 0.1 octane per application. Worthless.

Toluene is a much better alternative unless you can get unleaded racing fuel.

Xylene works as an octane booster too. Both Toluene and Xylene are relatively close in octane, one is 114 and the other 117, don't remember which is which, but don't exceed 20% of the total volume. Exhaust will smell like paint thinner, at least it does without a cat.

I don't use Xylene as it'* rumored to be bad for some engine seals and sensors. But you're right, they are very similar from an octane and chemical standpoint.

What is a safe amout of Toluene to use? And what in octane standards does that relate to?

Agreed, but I wouldn't think short term use would be too harmful. I've tried the Acetone deal for mileage too, but that'* a way lighter load. On that subject I have found no discernable results and maybe even a small decrease. I've heard of problems with some injectors too (Motec maybe?) where some of the heavy duty cleaners can disolve a seal inside and cause a leak. I certainly agree to use caution if the results are unknown. I appreciate the tip.

BL, Toluene can be a dangerous game. There'* nothing definitive out there for a guidline from a trusted source, but I can tell you that I tested it extensively for some time, and so have SilverBullet and Pdad.

You have to make runs with it and the scantool, to see how much you need to kill KR. Don't use more than you need. Start with one gallon per tank.

For instance, if you have 16.5 gallons of 92, and one gallon of Toluene at a rough 120 octane, you end up with 93.6 octane.

If your poison is 93 octane to start with, your net result is 94.54 octane for that one gallon of Toluene.

The danger is in repeated use. You have to constantly recalculate by what you have remaining in the tank each time you mix. Or it can run away from you very quickly.

Just putting in high octane fuel once you arrive at the track is a useless excersise. You must first reset the PCM and then drive for at least 30 minutes under various loads in order for the PCM to learn fuel trims with higher octane fuel.

That said, unless your car can actually benefit from high octane fuel, either because you have KR or want to advance the timing or lean out the mixture, then high octane fule may even hamper your performance. bear in mind that high octane fuel is harder to light than lower octane fuels.

We can buy up 114 octane in the Ottawa area from Pro Racing Fuels, all of their products are lead free. In US dollars it'* roughly $9 gallon.

We have a shell station about 3 mile from here right off of the 5 freeway that sells 104 or 114 octane. It'* pretty pricey however. A couple of years ago the fuel was going for 5.99 a gallon.

Again, be very careful that it'* not leaded.
