Any thoughts on this gizmo?

I did a search on "4t60e controller" and this website came up. It looks to be very promising, and should allow anyone to run a stand-alone PCM (MegaSquirt and the like). Not too keen on the price though.

Found another supplier...not sure on the cost though. They also have ad spots in "Popular Hot Rodding"

My goal? Not too clear yet. I'm thinking way beyond my means at the moment. I would, however (and I have been contemplating it for a while) eventually like to go with a standalone PCM for datalogging and tuneability. The only things stopping me are cost and the 4t60e, since it needs the factory computer to work.

It'* not a waste if you want/need a standalone computer to control shift schedules and TCC apply. 4t60e'* can't do that by themselves (regular 60'* and 440T4s can...except for the TCC...that is always going to be an external trigger).

I can't see how unless I piggyback the two. Even then, the factory PCM in that configuration would still have to have SOME jurisdiction over the motor in order for it to decide when and how the transmission shifts. That totally defeats the purpose of total tuneability. If I wanted the PCM to control the transmission, I would just go with a reburned EEPROM. I could probably have the shift tables tweaked a bit at the same time. But unless you have access to a track and dyno, there is absolutely no way of knowing what the optimal parameters are for a configuration other than stock.
Hence the datalogging and on-the-fly tuning capabilities of standalone management systems. I have always liked that about them.
For NOW, after I get my rebuilt trans installed and certified operational, I am 99.9% sure I am going to go with a custom EEPROM. My car is a veritable Frankenstein now and the last thing I need to do is give it REAL brains. It wouldn't know what to do with them, and frankly, I doubt I would either. But my next build, however, WILL include all I have learned on this car, and them some. That'* when I plan on completely ditching the GM management.
