Misty Water Cooling
 

So I just got done washing my car and was playing around with the water again, when it got me thinking about a previous thread I have read. "its ok to have water come through the filter and into the tb, only if it is a mist" so i tried that. I turned the gun on the hose to mist and sprayed the filter from half a foot away for 1 second. (In my car I have a thermometer that I placed the sensor directly in front of the filter, so I can monitor the temperature) Before I sprayed it read out at 75 F, then when I went back to check the reading it said 72 F. So if I hooked up some type of mist sprayer in front of my filter; that could be a good thing since we all want the air to come in cold and dense, right? This is different from a water injection because the water is being injected into the intake pipe directly, right?

When the water collects in the filter, then passes through, it creates droplets. If you're going to inject, you want a mist to enter the TB, not droplets.

You can't control it if you're trying to get through the filter first. Why not spray the radiator, and lower your ECT temps that way? Some intercooled rally cars do this for the intercooler heat exchanger.

Also, if your IAT gets wet, it will give false cool readings, and your PCM will constantly hunt for the right balance. Inject a mist AFTER the IAT but before the MAF. Your intake air temps don't start really increasing until they get into the engine anyway.

Spray the radiator? Huh, I would never think that affecting the outside of it would affect anything.

WRX's have this built in. :wink:

But do a very fine mist before the MAF and you'll be good :twisted:

Spraying a filter won't be good for it either. It can not filter, or not let air through at all, depending on what type of filter material it uses.
