I did the TPS mod a while back and used the voltages listed in Tech Info. It has been many months, and the voltages are staying where I adjusted them. However, the throttle still seems lazy. I don't get snappy throttle response off the line, and even with my cam I cannot manage to chirp the tires from a standing start on dry pavement.

Additionally, I always feel like I have to apply a lot of throttle to make the car downshift. When I'm going up a hill I have to press the gas down a long way to keep it in a low gear, otherwise the TC locks for a few seconds before it realizes "Hey..... I can't make it up this hill with the TC locked."

All in all, I'm not sure the recommended voltages are correct. Maybe I need a new TPS. Or maybe it'* tranny-related stuff?

Ben, this is a great question. I've 'optimized' mine per that article. And I'm beginning to have second thoughts. It makes the TCC unlock on throttle nudge VERY sensitive. This causes undue wear on the TCC and poor mileage. (talking the SSEi here, not the SLE)

I'm tempted to move mine back to a factory setting per the FSM'*. This weekend, actually.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Do you think a new TPS is in order? I assume it'* possible for them to wear out.

But what do you think about my car'* inability to chirp the tires? There are guys around here with stock SE Bonnies that claim they leave black marks on the road! My throttle response isn't near quick enough to break the tires loose on dry pavement. What gives?

I know jr's3800 can light 'em up. Who else? And are they all 95'*? You've got alot more TM in your PCM than the 95, and perhaps the 96 as well.

How much slip does your TC see at OD with the cruise set?

Not sure about it being TPS or not. Ben.. SE can break them loose... something is up here.

Shouldn't his Intense pcm have less TM then a stock pcm would?
Maybe you did lose quite a bit of low end power with that cam but gained alot on the top end. One of my friends has a 97se and can lite them up pretty good if he wants to in the dry.

Actually, I'm on the stock PCM for another week, but this problem isn't anything new. I have never been able to break 'em loose on dry pavement. Couldn't do it when I was bone stock, couldn't do it after the Intense PCM, and still can't do it, even after the cam. The cam is roughly equivalent to a ZZP GT1, but a little less agressive. Keep in mind we also raised the compression over 10:1. I should have bald tires by now!

Some of it could be TC slip. Most of you know that I deal with the notorious 'surge' or 'chuggle' when it'* hot outside. My current scantool does not monitor TC slip or any other transmission parameters, so I don't know if it'* worse than it should be. All I know is I thought the TPS mod would make the car more snappy, but I don't think it ever changed a thing.

Maybe Don is right about the tranny. The chuggle obviously proves that something is wrong; I just don't know how bad it really is.

Personally, if you were never able to chirp/burn them off the line (even when stock) I would be looking into issues that have been unchanged (tranny for example) I know I have a stock SE and I leave pieces of my tires everywhere I drive. OR you have REALLY sticky tires...when mine get hot I have trouble doing anything because all they do is hook up.

My personal guess would be that it is something deeper than the mods you have done.
