Shift Kit Concerns
I've ran through the suggested list of mods on the sticky and i'm down to the shift kit now. To make a long story short, I lost the stock trans in my Trans Am to a shift kit malfunction. It was too hard of a shift for a 62k mile trans to take apparently. I upgraded to a slightly modified 4l65e with shift kit and 4200 SC and ended up losing a solenoid in that as well. I dont have the money I used to have back then, so I need this shift kit to...well, NOT eff up my transmission lol. I've read around and apparently quite a few people use shift kits in their cars. Im just curious to see if anyone'* had any problems with durability like I experienced with my trans am?
And on a side note, if I end up purchasing one, it will be Intense'* kit due to the fact that Danthurs has a brilliant how-to on it Which reminds me, which level of intensity are you using Dan?
Thanks

The intense kit is more expensive then others, but I feel it'* worth it. New springs and seals, metal spacers, easy to follow instructions. I went firm and have no problems. My trans has 101k on it. As long as your trans starts out in good shape, there should be no problems. But if you drop the pan and find a lot of shavings on the magnet, it'* a good idea to not install it.

Wow you're quick, thanks! Alright, noted. And it'* not too bad around the city just cruising? Would it be worth it to send the PCM to intense and have them alter shift RPM to accommodate? I didn't have them touch that when I sent in mine. I need to send it back to get a couple other things changed anyway.

Lol alright, that'* basically what I wanted to hear. I guess its just the application. On LS1.com its sickeningly common for shift kits to destroy transmissions, but then again that'* 300hp hardshifts against 245hp or whatever these have.

If you need to send the PCM back, you might as well have the shift points adjusted at the same time. Doing so wont guarantee or keep from having problems with your transmission though.

The only time I have a problem is in rush hour traffic moving real slow. It can shift a little harsh, but nothing to bad. If you haven't had it done yet, have them do all the standard performance tune. If you had that done then it'* already there.

Having an Ei you can add a performance shift button to the pcm and then adjust your normal and performance shifts and pressure. This means that you can leave things very normal in normal mode and an animal in performance mode.
A lot of it is also based on how quickly the pcm is told to complete the shift etc. Stock with a shift kit is a nice improvement w/o being crazy.
