building a nitrous motor... several questions within.
well, i've been debating for quite some time now as to the nature of my next project. leaning heavily towards a typical RWD GM car. but my love for my U-van won out and i am currently looking for an early olds- siloutte or transport to use as a full time drag vehicle.
i've also desided to keep the L-27, mainly for shock value (it'* a front driver van with the "original motor") being a track only trailer car gives me the option to go wild with weight reduction and other things i could never do on a street car. i plan on doing some pretty heavy modding to the engine to beef it up and running a healthy direct port nitrous shot on it.
early this week i picked up the first of the several motors i will be picking up to build the motor. onto the questions.
does anyone know of any good websites or books (real books, like with pages and everything) that focus on building nitrous fed track only motors.
also has anyone here built a bottle fed terror. or a high performance l27 for that matter. i know that basicly motors are motors and most of the old school trick will cross over, just looking to learn as much as possible as i build this motor.
my post always turn into endless rambling, so i'll close now...

I know that this isn't a book like you asked for, but here'* a nitrous forum with a number of decent links and a F.A.Q. section with 32 articles that might be helpful.
http://nitrousforum.com/
and another non-paper nitrous manual:
http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Instructions/main.htm
Oh, and this site is a good one for DIYers...

OK, you wanted paper. There'* a number of books here on Amazon dot com that look like they are what you're wanting.

At the bottom of page are other good paper books. If you buy any, bring them by at the meet..I'd like to glance through them...

Stock block is going to be fine for almost any kind of shot that you throw at it. Trying to keep your trans together will be the hard part. If I was going to do a nitrous build I'd have a direct port setup with bottle heater, purge, and all the accesories along with a progressive controller with 2 stage window switch. I'd also have a way to control timing... You will want to start pulling timing with a bigger shot because at that point the nitrous will make more power then a few degrees of timing. Also make sure that your setup can supply enough fuel (injectors, fuel pump, etc)

the l27 is a VERY strong motor from what we can determine, the weakness will obviously be the trans with that added torque of nitrous, not the HP.
the second failure may be the plastic intake manfold, but it may be ok, I dont know enough about the effects of nitrous.
