Default My CAI and questions...

Hello and this is my first post here on the forum. I recently bought my Bonne and had it fixed up at the shop, so everything is in correct working order. Then a few weeks ago I was reading this forum and a couple of posts about CAI'* cought my eye and I decided to do it to my ride. I did the hole thing based off of one of the other posts that I had read...
This is a picture of what I had originally made.

A closer look.

Then I added a lid.

My question is: Should I have the lid I made for this on there to keep the hot air from going above my heat sheild or should I leave the top open? Of course if I leave the top on, then the heat sheild would keep the heat out, but I am concerned about it restricting the air flow too much and it would be more difficult for the intake to suck air into the engine. What do you guys think or what do you know based on your own experiences? Any comments would help...

Also, what would you recomend for my second upgrade for a little more power besides for a new muffler?

That'* very close to what I have. I used a dryer hose to dirrect air from the outside into my box. See if there'* room to do that on your car. I can't tell from the picture.

Lose the filter. That'* one of the worst filters on the market, and is probably a restriction, not a gain.

Get a K&N or other PREMIUM proven brand. As a rule, stay away from the brands import tuners prefer. Many of those filters actually hold water (this is a test I did some years ago to prove the point to another member).

In general, it'* a good heat shield. I'd consider cutting plexi or acrylic sheet to the same shape, make a rigid box to hold the shape with the insulation outside AND inside it.

That looks almost like mine did when I first did it. Mine worked fine for me and kept IAT to within 5-10* of ambient.

Like willwren said, there are much better filters to be had.

Here'* the link to the ajusa page for the K&N RX-4750

As long as air can freely enter the box from the outside.

It actually looks like a pretty good design, functionally. If you go the track, pop the headlight, and you'll get even more airflow.
