Default Removing the MAF screen

Yes, I know its been brought up countless times, and I read the Techinfo article that had some directions in it, but I couldnt get that little metal ring out that holds the sucker in. I dont want to damage either the screen or the ring incase I have to put it back in due to a rough idle. Can anyone give me some tips as to how to remove it without ruining it?

The little ring is actually called a snap ring, It has a hole in each end. Use a pair of snap ring pliers. If they don't know what those are, they are mainly used (at least what I bought them for) To take U-Joints out of Chevy pickups' driveshafts.

Of course you could try pulling those two holes towards each other with straight pins.

Paper clips might not be stiff enough, But you could try pulling the holes in the ends together with two of em.

I pulled mine out with a flat tip screwdriver in 20 seconds. Not bent or anything. If you do bend it, I can try to find mine and send it your way if you need it. Had my Maf out for a month or so, and no problems at all.

well i took the MAF screen out and went out for a little performace run. I didnt really notice a change, and it was idling rough so I put it back in for now. That and the idling control sound got alot louder when I had it off. I need a heat shield and some cooling more than anything right now. I just have to find something to make the heat shield out of.

I found that the best way to take it off is to use a pliers to bend a safety pin and get it loose, and then to just use a flat head screwdriver on it.

it was vibrating some, I could feel it through the steering wheel and my dad would have bitched about it whenever he drove the car. Removing the MAF screen probably makes more of a difference on the SCed cars.
