Intense vs ZZP

Alright guys (especially the Intense crew),

I'm going to be going out of town for a week in mid October and I'm planning on leaving the car at the tranny shop to have some upgrades done and to replace whatever is causing the shuddering that I'm experiencing. On my list of what I'll have them replace is the 4th Clutch Shaft, Boost Valve and Sleeve and a new Torque Converter (stall speed 3000).

I'll apologize now for ruffling any feathers, but I'm on a budget and I'm looking to get the best value, even if it costs more. If I'm going to do this I want to do it right.

For the pieces I'm looking at, I'd end up saving about $90 total by going with ZZP. So my question to everyone here is "Are the ZZP products lower quality than the Intense versions or about the same?" or read another way "What makes the Intense products worth the extra $90?"

I'm looking to get the job done right but I also need to be cost conscious about it. All opinions are wanted and feel free to PM me if you don't want to post publicly.

Thanks in advance!

We don't do business by berating the competition but I will tout some of our strengths.

The converter is the main difference. Our converters are made by ATI which not only builds converters for GM AND BMW but they also build the machines that other companies use to remanufacturer those converters. They have access to GM blueprints and specs that others are not aware of.

Our customer service is the best in the 3800 community. I think if you ask around you will see that. We also have everything in stock and can ship same day on over 98% of the items listed on our site including 100% of what you mentioned.

Rogue,
Thanks for the info on the Torque Converter, that's some good information for me to consider. With ATI being so widely known/used in the industry this alone carries a lot of weight.

I also applaud your professionalism by refusing to berate the competition. You'r choice of words though makes me think that some of your customers have had some problems with ZZP, either as a company or with their products.

If anyone out there has experience with ZZP let me know. I'm especially interested in rates of failure, thoughts on their customer service, etc.

I'll make no secret about it, I'm greatly leaning towards Intense, but to a guy on a budget without any real high hp or high torque mods, $90 is $90.

I'll be honest, I don't know alot about ZZP transmissions. In fact, the only one I know of running on this site is Caminated's.

A little known fact on INTENSE is that they have REALLY pressed the limits on testing their stuff. Like nobody else. There were more than just a few INTENSE parts in the Spirit of Bonneville when it shattered all records at the Salt Flats.

I can't tell you much about what you are looking for.

But I have a few things from ZZP, and have had no issues. You'll find that both Intense and ZZP make really good stuff. Don't listen to the arguements on other message boards. They are both good places to go.

From what I've read, it seems like ZZP's tranny failure rate is next to none. Alot of people seem happy with them.

Just go with whichever company you want. Neither one is going to screw you over.

As far as ZZP vs. Intense trans parts, the hard parts are pretty much the same between the two. (if I understand correctly they are actually made by the same company, but I could be wrong here?) The only difference is the converters (as far as I know anyways), and they both have good convertors. Honestly, I would tell you to bring it to whoever is closer to you. We have a ZZP trans in the GTP and have had absolutely no problems with it (besides the 3 failed INTENSE LSD's), but others have had no problems with their INTENSE trans, so really the difference is your preference and whats more convienient for you. Niether trans is going to be weak or of lesser quality.

We have one in the GTP, but other than our GTP and caminated's SSEi I think thats it on here...could be wrong though.

Neither shop is close, I've been working with a guy at a local tranny shop that will be putting them in for me once I decide who/what I want to go with.

You paying him with beer? ;)

Hey, get in touch with Pdad. He did the same thing. He might be able to give you his list.
