Bonnevilles do not have a U-bend like the GP'* is that correct?

No we dont have a u bend like the gp'* but between the cat and resenator there is jog of sorts that could be straightend.

That little jog is only on the 00+ I believe. Mine'* a straight shot.

All W bodies have the Ubend...Impala, MC, GP. That'* what costs them the 5hp and 5tq.

On the N/A models. The supercharged models have the same stated power output as the GTP'*.

I think the U-Bend is just because the GP is smaller. Us Bonnies are bigger, and dont' require it.

I thought it was to protect one of the O2 sensors so that it is not damaged by road debris.

That'* the right answer. Though you could argue that because the GP is smaller, they needed to put the U bend in to protect the sensor as there wasn't sufficient space to orient it differently.

So...they sacrifice 5 hp and 5 tq in SE and GT GPs in order to protect an O2 sensor :?

I'm suprised that even got off the drawing board...

The O2 sensor is an absolute necessity...anything to make sure it would survive and protect GM against excessive emissions over the 5 year warranty coverage, not to mention being able to properly adjust A/F ratios for better performance.
