Installed my P.P.3 today....WOW

Finally got it back from its updating and installed it today (which BTW took less than 10 minutes and required no tools or even getting dirty WOOHOO 8) ) I chose a more street friendly installation but I upped the rev limeter to 6000, I upped the 1-2 shift by 2 MPH the 2-3 by 4 and the 3-4 by 4.......(it also adds a dyno tested 10 whp and 13 lbs tq onto a stock car who knows with mods?).....when I take it to the strip ill do some tuning (maby up that 1-2 to 4 mph or so) so it shifts from 1-2 at like 5700-5800 RPM now seems to build a bit more boost (registered 12.5 on the crappy stock digital boost gauge, but it could have been boost stack cause it was a cold and rainy day) The shift firmness I upped by 50% and now I can actually feel it shift...however I may up it to 75% cause the shifts are still pretty soft, I upped the speed limeter to match my W rated tires (166 mph) although I imagine it would truly top out at 145 or so, but at least I wont be bumpin off that stock 108 (UGH)***of course I have only done this off road at tracks*** WIth just those adjustments it really woke that old Buick up it was the first time since the pulley that I said "WoooHoooooHoooooo" after flooring it...of course it was slick so it spun starting at 35-40 mph because it downshifted fast enough..but what really got me was when it spun in second for a bit...WOW it wasnt THAT slick...last time I spun in second there was white stuff on the ground....all in all I think it was a good investement for what I was looking for, although an INTENSE PCM is cheaper by 4 times I cant un install in in a matter of 5 minutes without tools or even getting out of the car, I would also have to pay a core if I wanted to keep my old PCM (which I would being my car is under extended warranty) Hypertech has great customer service plus does alot of R&D on there products I rate it an A+

Pardon my ignorance but what is a PP3?

96LeSabre 03-28-2005 07:23 PM

That would be Power Programmer 3. They make one for our cars? Also how much did you pay? I've looked at 'em before but they seem pricey for 1 car use.

BonEvilSSEi 03-28-2005 07:50 PM

sorry 2001+ W bodys only
and yeah I payed 400 shipped from 3800performance.com but I can change it back to stock in 5 minutes with no tools if I got a warranty issue (which I should have with the tranny after racing season LOL) But if there are enough people interested with Bonnes then im sure they would make one. Like I said I could have paid 100 + another 100 for a core and had my stock and an Intense (which was what I was gonna do untill I got some extra christmas cash) but then replacement would take like 30-40 minutes and would involve me removing my SLP intake lid (a biotch to do) and then getting the PCM to slide back into the intake and stay with the spacers all in place (also a biotch as it took me a solid 45 minutes to install the SLP intake) all of this would have saved me a couple hundred bucks and the performance may have been slightly better, but for ease of install ease of returning back to stock and GREAT customer service from 3800performance.com and Hypertech I am pleased!

HP Tuners would turn it back to stock in 30 seconds and give you a ton more programming parameters plus give you logging and dtc code clearing ability, and you wouldnt have to leave your car...you would need a laptop though... :)

Glad you like the hypertech, your the first ive heard of using one on a w-body.

Btw, raising your shift points on a stock valvetrain will push you out of your power band (shifting at 5500-5600 is ideal). Now, put some rockers in there and raise the shift points to 6k would be a whole new story...

BonEvilSSEi 03-28-2005 10:10 PM

sorry cant invest in a laptop...and I would be afraid id screw something up with the HP tuner suite as im not as into all the computer funtions as some of you guys (im just a nuts and bolts guy) Although I did increase the rev limeter to 6000 RPM it is shifting at about 5600 in 1-2 and about 5700 2-3 havent paid that much attn to 3-4, because at those speeds my eyes are on the road LOL.....I may or may not do rockers on the Regal, just depends on what I can convince my service manager (also a buddy of mine) to let me do while still keeping the extended warranty company from freaking out (he said as long as I dont break any factory seals then I should be fine, valve covers are breaking a factory seal) If I can convice him then im still not gonna go over board I may get some 1.8:1 Intense rockers but keep the stock springs, and maby rev to 5700 during 1-2 and 5800 2-3 nothing too extreme. But first come PEM's and a DP for more KR killing powa...hoping to break a high 13 with PEMs and a DP along with my current mods.

Now is as good of a time as any to ask this what is the best tool to program, scan, store custom pcms and have a great monitor (I have a lap top so no problem there.)

BonEvilSSEi 03-28-2005 11:13 PM

For the GP prolly HP tuners...for the Bonne....sorry no such luck...but Jet makes a good chip!

Phantom 03-28-2005 11:27 PM

i do not mind that there is not anything for the bonnie becauce there is some damage to its frame and a couple of other small things and by the time and money I would spend to fix it I will beable to buy the GP from me parents I will keep comming here though because the people at GPclub are immature and half just waist your time with BS posts.

Long Live BC (sorry for being off topic)

BonEvilSSEi 03-28-2005 11:38 PM

its my post dimmit so you can be off topic, and I agree Bonne club > all, ive tryed clubGP and RegalGS.org, and the only thing there good for is kill stories and used parts LOL......BTW get with Rogue about mods for that GP hes the customer svc manager at Intense (he gots da hookup!) and HP tuners is a great product, but you may want to invest in an Intense PCM and a good scanner, and if you get really crazy and want ultimate tuning then get a happy knob and an AFC 2.0 then you can tune the timing advance and fuel richness (but you usually only need to do this if you go overboard with mods)
