how much power can be made for $1500

at this point i am very confused on what to do with the car. aside from calling it a complete loss the engine must come out for proper repair/replacement. at that point what can $1000-$1500 get me for whp. cam/injectors/etc. i am certainly not looking to move past the stock heads as that is just WAY to much money for me to allocate to this project.

Is that $1k to $1.5k budget on top of the standard engine maintenance and/or engine replacement you mentioned?

How much time and elbow grease can you put into it yourself? Do you have good tools and workspace? Can you afford to have the car down for awhile? (To save on labor--and perhaps parts through some DIY modifications like porting)

How much power are you shooting for?

Very important...how's your transmission?

I have around $1000 in go fast mods on my engine. Not sure what you can do with a 95. I got lucky on rockers and pushrods. But if you added headers or PEMs that will help. Rockers, if you can, stiffer valve springs will also help. Now this is if your enging has parts avalible for you to do this. I'm not sure. But for that budget you shoudl be able to do a lot.

For 1500 you can cause enough power to cost you 2500 more in the trans. How do you want to split it up?

you have the S1 L67 so willwren is probably whos going to give you the best advice.

basically i would go witha cam. Its your best bet for $. A vs Cam from zzperformance.com. Look for gains around 30 - 50 Hp. You Can then drop a pulley size or 2. Then With the money left over, get 42.5 Injectors , pcm work , and a downpipe. That combo would put u at about 1,500 and get you about 60 more ponies. Thats if u can do the work yourself, Its easy, and comes with instructions. This also depends how many miles you got on a tranny,

Wrong year engine. He has a series 1 L67 what you listed above won't work

Thanks, Oldsman.

Let's clarify this one more time:

That's way off base for the topic author's engine. A cam for that engine would not be found at ZZP or any other normal 3800 North American vendor. Only from Australia at great cost, or custom from the ground up. Most Series 1's respond VERY well to rockers anyway, and that prevents losing the bottom end of most street/strip cams available at great cost from 'down under'.

With the lack of easy tuning, it's best to mod the S1 in stages. That way you don't throw the PCM into 'bonkers' mode all at once. Get a feel for how it responds to each mod, then when you're done, optimize it with a custom burn.
