heat shield

first off, i wanna thank wilren from stopping me from ordering and replacing maf sensor... it was definatly the tps that was cuasing my car to accelerate like that..

anyhow, i was wondering the benefits of putting heat shield of some sort onto my cai.. since i see that almost everyone with cai has this! also.. kinda off topic but figured i'd not start new thread... is there any doggone chip for my 96 ssei! i am having a heck of a time finding one that will fit on either zzp or intense :?

Without a shield, you're pulling hot air from the engine compartment.
With a fully enclosed filter, you eliminate the intake of hot air from the engine compartment. Mine is fully enclosed in a "box" made from reflectex and at 60 MPH,my IAT reading is within 5* of ambient ;)

you have pictures of this? i guess that makes sense since the engine gets plenty warm.. any body have a good list of instructions for the building of this or is it a matter of just wrapping a crap load of heat shield around it ;)

Here's the thread when I did mine.......
Shield

II just cut mine where it would form a bottom and 2 sides and used reflectex tape to tape everything in place. I have a top on it now made of the same stuff and taped in place. It's not the prettiest but,hey....function over fashion. There are some other modifications I'm thinking about but, those will come later.
