Headers w/ stock valvetrain or cam
 

Thinking ahead. Would there be any benefit to get headers with a stock cam and valvetrain?

The plan is to cam the car, but was wondering if headers before the cam would make any sense.

I have headers and only have rockers and i felt a difference if you are looking cam i would do it after headers

Sure, you could potentially drop pulley sizes.

PEMs aren't headers but are better then the stock manifolds.

If you plan to cam the car do the headers first; I noticed a large gain with the butt dyno when I did the same thing.

You will lose a little grunt on the low end but the horsepower up top will increase. They should allow you to run a slightly smaller pulley as well to pick up some of that low end torque.

I have headers ready to go in once I get them fixed up.

My goal right now is to be able to run a 3.0/3.1 with pump gas and 17*-18* of timing. I'm already doing it with a 3.3 and stock manifolds. ;)

Several GPs are in the mid 13s with just headers, pulley, intake and tune.

I did...it did lose a little low end..but nothing crazy

yes this is true, but the advantage is that you can run a smaller pulley size to make up that lost low end.....

the Top end gain is worth the loss in the low

Currently I have a 3.5 and FWI and was thinking of PCM and headers at the same time. Then next summer go with a cam and tranny work.

Just confirming...this is a better method than doing headers after my summer plans?
