Default 96 PCM burn???

im sure this is an old topic come back to haunt but all my searching and i scrounged up nothing. as my sig. says i have a 1996 SSEi and i really want to get the pcm burned so i can unleash her a lil bit. i sent a message to brian turner at intense about their PCM and if they have the ability to custom burn one for me. well the email he sent back told me to ask the guys at HP-Tuners (the company that supplies intense with the data) i am awaiting a responce from HP-Tuners and brian also told me that he heard of changing out the 96 PCM for a 97 PCM i am not to sure this will work because of the difference in transmissions

so please im calling out to all please tell me that it is posible to swap PCM'* with out needing to swap engine/trans

I'm in the same boat as you. I've contacted DHP and Sinister Performance about it and no one will touch it.

The swapping the 96 for a 97 is an interesting idea. I know our 4T60-HD'* have 2.93 gearing, which is the same as the 4T65-HD. What are the other programming differences between the two? Does anyone know of any other differences besides transmission related stuff?

I'm thinking if there are few differences we could do a custom burnt '97 PCM with the few '96 settings for things that are different. I think the 1996 PCM is a different size and shape as well...does anyone know if the connectors are the same?

Here is what is known:

1) 96SSEi_tampa converted his 1996 to use the -65 by splicing in the needed harness and running the 97 PCM.

2) 1997 L36s still ran the -60, so shift tables exist for the 2.86 and the 3.06. In fact, I bet Intense has the needed tables for you. Just because they won't touch the '96 PCM doesn't mean they don't have some or all of the tables for that year.

3) Pinouts are the same between the PCMs mostly. Not many differences, but go to http://home.att.net/~subzero350/ for all your pinout data.

Best way to approach the 96'* is with the DHP Power Tuner(Now Discontinued). Last time i checked with HP Tuners, the did not handle the 96.

Just to further elaborate on this point. All you need is the 97 PCM, the external trans harness for a -65, and a new driver side axle. Aside from the research to get it done it was one of the easier things I've done to the car.

Edit: Since the 97 PCM is the same as the 96 as far as the -60 is concerned...I suppose it may be possible to run a 97 SSEi PCM with the trans tables for the -60 that were used in the 97 computer (since a company such as Intense may have those on file). You could correct for the gear ratio difference with a speedo recalibrator and a custom made VSS reluctor wheel. Of course this is just a thought and I could be entirely mistaken in my thinking so take this with a grain of salt.
