94 Bonnie easy mods
OK, and thanks for welcoming me to the Club. I've got a 94 Bonnie, 3.8 non-super, 167k, runs GREAT, do I get a Flowmaster and a K&N, or a Flow and one of those "ricer" intake kits? Looking for HP on the cheap here, so let me know what you all think. A chip will have to come later, but any suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks--Chris

What kind of "chip" are you talking about? If you are thinking about those ebay horsepower chips then save yourself the money and go buy a 2 dollar resistor from Radio Shack.

Welcome to the club!
I always say this when someone is asking for horsepower on the cheap, and it pretty much holds true in all cases. Do not focus on anything aftermarket unless you are 110 percent positive your engine is tuned to its fullest potential in factory setup. Many people come on here asking about mufflers and intakes and whatnot. But none of that amounts to ANYTHING unless you have fresh plugs, wires, the coil packs are cleaned, battery terminals have no corrosion, O2 sensor isn't acting lazy, etc.
Your best starting area is to first scan your car for any codes, past and present. Then look at realtime data to see how your sensors are sensing. Fixing any problem that you run across will not give you more horsepower per se, but it will restore LOST horsepower that it should have had before starting any mods.
After that, there are plenty of things to do

Yeah, I know those "Juice Boxes" and other assorted items don't work. Is there a performance PROM chip for these cars (94 Bonnie non-super code L), like a Jet Chip or similar. I know they have them for Camaro and Firebird etc., but anything for us? Also, I took my airbox apart, and there is really nothing to "gut". I guess I will be having to run a K&N panel filter, or a ricer-style zoom tube. Any opinions?

Nobody offers a performance PCM for you at all, other than www.gmtuners.com and they'll be wanting some very detailed and specific information first.
I suggest (in this order):
1. All the tuneup items including O2.
2. 180 degree thermostat, lean towards INTENSE'* wide-mouth design.
3. Drop-in K&N or fully shielded rice-pipe intake that places the filter RIGHT behind the headlight. K&N cone on it, not anything 'ricerish'.
4. High-flow cat.
5. 1.8 ratio rocker arms.
6. Custom PCM.
Do the brakes somewhere in there as well.

where can you get the 1.8 rockers? I have an LN3 and was thinking of taking the roller rockers off of a 94 L67 and drill out the hole to fit the LN3 heads. If i remember though these are still 1.5 or something like that.

Out of respect for the topic author, we should cover your questions in a seperate topic.
