links would be nice

Here's a link from 3800Pro..... they're probably a little less biased over there, plus you can get the official Intense stance on the problem.

Thanks for the heads up Rod.
I will plan on checking mine out over the winter. It's a fast easy check if I just do the front bank.

Edit - After reading thru all 8 pages, I think I will take the front valvecover off this weekend for a peak.

Rogue 09-01-2005 12:03 AM

I'd like PDad to do it also since he has my original set which were the 1st production set. My current set showed no signs of this wear and they have been on for over a year.

PontiacDad 09-01-2005 12:05 AM

Had my valve covers off a few weeks ago for new gaskets and everything was fine.
I have no way to test the spring tension but did retorgue the rockers and inspect valve guide clearance. I should have removed a few and inspected for wear but there was nothing alarming so I buttoned it up?
I've got about 20,000 miles on my 1.9:1 and they were used on 8 Ball first for about 5k before Rogue went 1x cam. I would expect some wear by this point and who knows maybe I'll find out this winter ;)

2000SilverBullet 09-04-2005 08:16 PM

Well, I took off the covers for an inspection today.
All is A OK. :D
Not even a hint of wear.
Only 6,000 km

smellbird 09-05-2005 04:50 PM

I took a peak at mine before I left for Toronto. Almost 1 year and 20,000 miles showed nothing out of the ordinary.

Maybe it's a sham :!:
Bad press aimed at INTENSE to hurt them.
Only reason I could see for that kind of wear would be insufficient lubrication.
Maybe I installed the oil pressure mod for a reason. ;)

Good Point, maybe it is the oil pressure kit?

I will pull mine this winter but I doubt I'll find anything. Just made a 100 mile cruise to the airport and the cool temps and empty hiways had me playing with the aerotech

only kr I was getting was the shift points 1-2 3 tops.

2000SilverBullet 09-06-2005 12:00 AM

What SC pulley was that with? The 3.3 or 3.1"?

bgn87 09-06-2005 12:42 PM

It's no sham. In fact, Scott Cook reinstalled mine after I put the LS6 springs in after 3k miles and experiencing valve float with stock springs so they can't blame improper install. Rogue, I too have a first run set from the first batch. I emailed Scott with all the info but haven't heard back from him. I pulled my valvecover on Saturday, after 25k miles this is what mine look like:

Chris - I don't recall if I saw your email today, but please understand that I receive about 200 every day. I do respond to ALL emails within one business day, so if you didn't get a response from me today, then I didn't receive your email.

For everyone - we understand the issues, we're very close to understanding the cause, and a solution should be announced within the next couple of days. And yes, Harland Sharp and INTENSE will stand behind our products and their warranties.

Thanks for your patience everyone!

2000SilverBullet 09-06-2005 11:13 PM

So Scott, are you saying that this problem is with all of the 1.9 HS rockers or just the first batch :?:
Mine look fine after 5,000 mi but what about after 25,000 mi :!: :?:

Rogue 09-07-2005 07:25 AM

It currently appears to be a problem with the spec of the pedestal. The outside range of the pedestal spec (i.e. pedestals that barely conformed to the spec range) appears to cause the wear we are seeing. We have seen wear on rockers in as little as 1000 miles so it does not appear to be mileage related.

This appears to be happening in a very small percentage of the rockers out there. So far we have 10 cases (with Chris now maybe 11) in about 500 sets sold. Harland Sharp is doing their best to come up with a proper solution and we will make that solution available to all owners of the 3rd gen rockers not just those currently affected.

BadSSEi 09-12-2005 08:11 PM

We want to thank those of you who provided helpful information to us during the last few weeks. Working together, we were able to find the cause and implement a solution rather quickly, and without your help and support this would not have been possible.

Here is a link to a new thread with details of how we plan to resolve this problem.

big_news_1 09-12-2005 10:18 PM

Kudos, gentlemen. Think you'll see any legal action taken by those parties who are still angry about shavings in their motors?

willwren 09-12-2005 10:31 PM

I seriously doubt INTENSE would be able or willing to discuss that in a public forum, and I seriously doubt any liability could be implied by a 'performance part'. Most companies don't VOLUNTARILY take care of issues like INTENSE does.

big_news_1 09-12-2005 10:48 PM

I guess they probably wouldn't answer that question, would they?

It seems like some of the unhappy people wouldn't hesitate to sue if they happen to lose a motor. I guess my question should be more along the lines of "Will these people have a legal leg to stand on if it were to happen?"

willwren 09-12-2005 10:53 PM

My bet would be no. And there isn't as much to this 'legal' issue as it is a turf war. Any modification you make to a stock engine is at your own risk. And ultimately, INTENSE didn't even manufacture these parts. They were done by a third party.

INTENSE is the only performance parts manufacturer for the 3800 that goes so far to keep customers satisfied. Most vendors wouldn't do anything about this.

The 3800 community has been through phases like this before, and it's cause the split and spinoff of other vendors you see existing today.

And to make it more clear, no Vendor will ever get a fair shake on a forum sponsored and owned by another vendor. This is why we don't do it. Period.

big_news_1 09-13-2005 11:35 AM

Good deal. Hope this can be water under the bridge in the near future. This issue should slowly fizzle and die, provided there are no more problems that surface.

Good job, Intense. You guys have stayed right on top of this thing from day one.
