Default Maf mod - Whatcha think?

I was thinking about that ginormous MAF housing taking up all our TB space and what all could be done with it. If you've looked at the housing the MAF sits in you'll know that thing must be a HUGE restriction. Thats when I stumbled across this:
http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12how-to/maf/maf.htm

Albeit for a slightly differnent TB the basics are still there. I've pulled mine apart and did a little homework and the only thing I've heard the huge thing is there for is stability against engine vibration causing distorted readings. If thats all its there for I could be goofy but it seems like intense overkill. I dunno, if someone has a spare TB I'd love to see this tried. I've looked around locally and I can't find a single junk-yard with a TB from my year or even close. What do you guys think? Free mod? Bad idea?

I read the same article a few days ago DrJay. I agree the throttle body is a limiting factor and the Maf is which translates the air flow into an electrical signal. You would need a mini afc to tune the maf as the maf'* air curve is set in the pcm. By boring out the tb you throw the curve out of wack? One of the problems I've noticed here is Bonne'* eat afc calibraters, they work for a while then die? I'm not sure whats going on in the pcm to do this but suspect it maybe has something to do with the map sensor?

I think I would hold off, until there were some numbers backing this mod up, unless I missed it on his page. Can removing that metal strip actually gain anything at all?

Laminar flow.

I have a spare TB, get me some suspected numbers and I'll cut it, Otherwise We'll just always wonder.

The MAF table won't change any and correct me if I'm wrong but the only reasons you'd want a calibrator is if you change the injectors or put a maf adjusted for different injectors in. The only issue I can see at the moment is at idle if there isn't a good flow over the wire it might be a little rough. A a/f calibrator won't change that.

it will allow alot better flow, its almost like boring out the TB it will create more area for air to flow through.

M'Kay Jay, The MAF port goes down inside that channel with a metal backing plate. Remove plate and chop off? Or chop plate and reinstall with the one mounting screw left?

Otherwise the spare TB is sitting in my shed soaking in carb cleaner to bring back it'* shine. Those are easy as heck to disassemble. Other than the slight amount of aluminum oxide holding the screws it basically took itself apart... I think I may grease some areas on the throttle linkage with axle grease, They look slightly worn and the throttle plate was sticking at Idle a bit.
