I am looking at a cheep way to lower my 96' Bonneville. I plan on taking Coil adjusters and squeezing my coils down by one loop. I think this should give me about an 1" to 1.5" drop in height. The things I would like to know is:

Will this make my suspension stiffer at all?
Will I need to have an alignment done after doing this?
Will this be to low for normal everyday driving? I live on a dirt road.
If I actually put lowering coils in would I need to do an alignment?
(I know about $250 dont't want to spend that much right now)

are those universal? i think if you are just parked at a show or something you can slam it and when you leave you can raise it. i think you wouldnt want to go to far with the stock coils though i think they could probably freeze in place. i don't know though

Thats fine if they stuck in place but I don't think they would. These are universal you just put them on opposite sides of the coil and tighten them down. I think am more worried about alignment than anything.

I don't quite get how they would work though. when you hit a bump the coil pushes together and if you had those on there at a certain stiffness they would fall of wouldnt they. maybe i am just braindead or something :? i think that would be a cheap way to lower your car though

You would use the one on the right in the pic. Put it on each side of the coil so it squeezes two of the rings together so there is no space in between them that way that part of the coil doesn't have any movement, it would almost be like torching a piece of the coil spring off but this way it can be removed.

man that is actually a damn good idea! I might just get those when I have the money. if you want to lower it farther do you just put it on the second coil down and tighten from there? 6.95x4=a lot cheaper than lowering springs!

Do you get what I am talking about. It sounds like you do. Here is a BAD picture I tried to demonstate what I am talking about. I still have the problem of if I will need to do an alignment.

iI think this would be your best bet.. I would think that you would need an new alignment cause wouldn't it be the same affect as drop springs since the steering arms stays the same length.. and I know on R/C with suspension geometry that if you drop the ride height.. it affects the toe angle and thus alignment is needed.. but again.. I"m no expert in this matter. The other thing that you may want to consider is the suspension tension rate that you may have to worry about the car bottoming out quicker. I also heard that struts don't like that .. but again.. for 1" or so.. I don't know. Luckily you don't have a SSEI with air struts in the rear with auto leveling

If you get those tell me how they are on your car. i.e how far it lowers it, ride quality etc. alright?
