Default intake questions

ok im seriously considering putting a cold air intake, but i need some info on how to make it fit my bon. what are the pluses and negatives of putting it on? I know i need the pipe and filter, anything special to make it fit my car? are there measurments that i need to know? what filter should i use? does the pipe matter? (i know mandril bend(or soemthing like that)). what about a heat shield? nesisary? what does it do? sometimes i see people who put a flexible pipe down under the car, what does that do? is that nessisary? any help would be appreciated! thanks guys, i can always depend on you for answers!!!!

Made mine out of PVC pipe. Sanded it down, put black engine paint on it. The rubber clamps holding the filter on and the pipe to the TB are really flexible and strong. Total cost without the filter is around 15 bucks (including high temp paint). No problems at all

I will get the new ones on tommarow, with the black paint, it looks a lot better!!! The filter is from auto zone for 20 bucks or something. I will get the K&N soon. This setup was in the experimental stage. It was actually throwing out a SES light and I could not figure out why, until members here helped me out and figured out the sensor needed to be pluged in. Ohewww
