Forced induction
Has anyone ever used a forced induction system or product? I am in the process of building and electric supercharger and wanted to know what I could expect as to problems with intake settings and installation and performance. :?

Many of us have Superchargers from the factory, and a handful of Turbo's here.
For the most part, electric superchargers are NOT a practical application. You either have way too much weigh in the car for batteries, or you have a joke under the hood. What setup are you looking at? What type of car? |
Moved "Forced Induction" to...Forced Induction
|
Yes bad idea
|
An electric supercharger will not be worth the cost or effort. Putting a turbo on the car or adapting a stock supercharger from another car to it would be more effective and not too expensive.
What year and trim level is your car? |
often the electric SC is actually more of a restriction that it does good

Ok, so that's bad!!
Gotcha! Trashing the F I idea! I am going to answer as many questions at one time as I remember from your flurry of replies. First I have a 1988 SSE, 1st year of that I think, that I am restoring. I am trying to do the mechanical first and the cosmetics later. It has the standard setup for that year and I have Bosch plugs, 8.5 mm wires (thickest I could find in my town)! Magnovox coil pack, that was interesting to replace, cone filter ram air induction, and performance chip. What else can this baby give me, I have seen some awesome setups w\MSD ignition and new exhaust, but they were on a 92 and a 94 series 2.

i guess it depends on how far you want to get into it...
i'm thinking L67 swap... go randman style  |

Series 2 started in 1995 with the non-supercharged L36, and in 1996 with the L67 (even though the L67 was also a Series 1). MSD ignition isn't really a power adder until you start doing crazy stuff under the hood. Go with the Delco ignition. Exhaust may help you, but don't go too big. I'll move this to Performance and Brainstorming now that we know what you're talking about. |
