Default How would I make my car faster ?

Hey Everyone,

I have a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SE and I want to add more power to my vehicle as well as increase performance. Does any have any suggestions or is anyone in the same boat as me ?

Change to a CAI, or gut the internals of the airbox, use a dryer duct to force more air into the airbox ( half-*** ram air but it works ) remove the maf screen.. I wouldn't really recommend doing a Cat-back system just yet ( you'll gain HP but at the expense of loosing Torque.. unless you're highly modified ). Rocker arms if you like, or depending on the size of your wallet, a supercharger or NAAAAWWWZZZZZ !!!!!!!!! Smelling them always puts a smile on my face ha ha ha ...

I took my MAF screen off my '96, removed a restrictor plate just outside the air filter, and those two things made a noticable difference, especially in the higher rpms. I've only occasionally noticed a stumble in the idle, but it doesn't seem any worse than before I took the screen out. I did save it to put it in later just in case.

Ok price aside you should get a head job/ new CAI and you should then add a shift kit. A better torque converter. Ok then the computer chip. Now add nos. just a small shot but it will help. You Will then have a bit more hp than a stock sc Bonneville. If you don’t mind putting in new innards you could set the engine up for alot of nos. But it is always better to spend the money on a sc swap.

Stop being greedy, SG. You just wanna sell him all that crap!
BTW, you forgot to tell him to put some lead in his right shoe.

Funniness aside, definitely change to a cooler thermostat and add a tranny cooler
if you're going down the performance road. I saw great benefit in doing that. There'* a TON of great help on this board. If you can think of it, someone here has done it.

Good luck!

The real issue with a non-sc is that you have only three options go natural with porting and other such traditional (old school) modifications or swap in a sc 3.8 or a V8. The power gained from a port and polished 3.8 with a grind and lifter etc... Is around the max of 300hp. The cost is big. I talked with thrasher and they are willing to do non-sc heads. Yes ill offer this on my site too, but if you just want a bit more hp and like to play around with your engine then stay stock and build it up over time. Once rebuilt you could add NOS..LOL be verwy verwry careful because NOS can lead to blowing your engine. Personally I am going for a v8. .

Isn't there roller rockers and a cam available for the L36 (96+ non-supercharged) Bonnevilles? I thought I read that on ClubGP. But I don't really keep up, seeing as I have a L27 which has NOTHING available for it :?

So what kind of muffler would improve performance on my 2001 Bonneville ? Would it improve HP too ?
