Default Got some numbers with the new tranny

I did a couple of runs tonight and recorded the 0-60mph and 40-70mph runs on my cell. I did the same thing after I built the motor too. So I have a pretty good comparison to see how much the tranny improved the performance. These numbers are just not exact, but pretty close. 0-60mph before the tranny was 9.1 sec with a little tire spin (chirp) off the line. 0-60mph after the tranny build was 8.5 sec and I was spinning BOTH wheels to 40mph. The WOT from 40-70mph before the tranny was 7.5 sec. After it was 5.9 sec. So the tranny build was definately a sucess. Im going to have Sinister burn a chip to correct the shift point with the 3.33 gears. It seems that after I do some hard runs, I lose O/D. When the tranny is cold, it shifts great and into O/D at about 48mph. But after it heats up on some hard WOT runs, no O/D. Hopefully the chip will correct it.

I haven't been around to much lately but what did you get replaced in the trans? What shop did the work? My stock trans was slipping (torque converter dying) pretty bad; you could feel it slip for a short time then it would just shudder when before it would lock up/stall.

Good to hear about the new trans, its a great feeling to be able to hammer on it with confidence!

Basicly my tranny grenaded 1200 miles after I rebuilt the motor. My bearings wer flat and my thrust washers were almost paper thin. My stovepipe drum was stripped and my 4th clutch and hub were ground up. Pretty nasty mess. Discount Transmission here in Saginaw did the work. I bought a master rebuilt kit which had all the seals, gaskets, springs, clutch plates, and all the little misc. stuff. I also bought a hardened Heavy duty stovepipe and a Transgo Jr shift kit. The stock diff was replaced with the heavy duty unit out of a SSEI and converted from a 3.06 to a 3.33 gearset. I also installed a Phantom Grip limited slip inside the diff as well as a B&M Supercooler. Topped it all off with Mobil 1 Syn ATF. The tranny guy replaced the rest of the bearings as well as the chain and the 4th clutch hub and shaft. And a new torque converter was installed. Basicly all new.

Very good question. That kind of trans failure can plug the core in your radiator. This restricts flow after the rebuild. You should bypass the radiator core if you haven't done so already, or you could be starving and damaging your new trans over time.

Because of the way the Zilla went, it'* bypassed, and the OEM cooler is in the garbage. The SLE is not, as it'* failure wasn't catastrophic.

The passages inside the radiator core are VERY small.

I bypassed the cooler in the radiator and am running just the B&M. My lines were leaking anyway, so I cut and flared the steel lines at the tranny and ran high pressure hose up to the cooler. What really gets me is that the lose of O/D doesnt seem to happen until after I run it real hard..

I believe the no overdrive thing is some sort of protection when the trans gets to hot. My trans does the same thing. I will lose overdrive after I run my car hard for awhile and will not get it back untill the trans cools off, then it works like a champ

Man, we have got to get togather soon, I really want to take a ride in that car

Kinda got an update. I just got back from a little drive. I was driving around like a good law abiding citizen for about 20 minutes. The car and tranny were both at operating temp and working great. 2100 RPM @ 60mph. Then, I came up to a stop sign out in the sticks. No one was around, so I got rolling about 10mph and layed into it. Smoked the wheels off til about 40mph. Then I lost O/D right after that. Drove like a good law abiding citizen for about another 10 minutes and still had no O/D. Stopped and shut the car off, then restated it. Then the O/D started working again. So, I really think its an electronic issue, probably with the PCM. Maybe this chip will help, or not. I hope its not an overheating issue. I would think with that B&M Supercooler and Mobil 1 that the tranny would be staying nice and cool.

The PCM is all effed up because it thinks your gear ratio is still stock. Since your gear change wasnt overly "steep" its going to do that, come and go.
Once your pcm is modified, you will be golden.

I'll go with Matt. That trans cooler should never allow the trans to overheat in ANY conditions or weather. I know, I have a monster installed on mine.
