Default Idea for those with hood vents

5 or 6 of us?

Winter covers. Got the idea about a year ago when driverjohn2005 and I were talking, and the idea got 'refreshed' recently because I'm not actually storing the Zilla inside the garage this winter (too many engines/tools).

I got some magnetic vinyl from a local sign shop, then went to the craft store and bought a couple rolls of adhesive backed magnetic strips. I made this test piece:

These aren't really intended for driving, just for storage, but I'd like to see if they hold up to driving this morning just out of curiosity.

I've never had any problems with rain getting in there before, but it'* possible that moisture freezing in/around connectors and such could be a problem in the future (john had an issue last winter that could have been due to this).

I'll let you know how they hold up to the drive, and keep you posted on the final version.

Been doing that to mine for a couple yrs. It wasn't so bad with the */C, but now with the turbo I see the path of the water if I don't have my vents covered.

My front pass vent leaks water right onto my coils if its not covered.

Held up to a blistering 85mph. The weather is far too nasty to test at higher speeds. Good enough for me for now.

I'll make these today and get 'em on the car.

After this, I sealed the inside corners with black silicone adhesive/sealant. When they've dried well, I'll finish the outside 'cosmetics'. This stuff is laminated on the top side with black vinyl (uv resistant).

Curing and 'relaxing' flat:

You just need fiberglass magnets!

Finished for now, but these will be painted when the hood is:

Yes, I use my fridge for car parts too.

Smoothed and rounded all the edges and corners, then installed them:
