feeling performance
i know this is a noob question, but ive got to ask it. ive put autolite605s , a 180 stat, a cold air ducting , a 3.4'' pulley, and a k&n filter(all together),. i let my brother borrowed my car for a date , and my tranny is just about shot :evil: :evil: . without even driving it with the parts on it, i did not see or feel the gain in performance, let alone tak it to the track, or dyno. but my question is this, with some of yalls experiences with these sort of mods, what should i expect to be pushing out, or even better, feel any change in acceleration/top speeed .... thanx

Keep in mind, you have the heaviest SSEi ever produced (2000-2003), so your seat-of-the-pants dyno won't be as apparent as earlier generations, but you should EASILY have felt it, especially the torque off the line. That should be higher by 40-50 ft/lbs.
The sparkplugs themselves may have only re-gained you LOST horsepower, but by themselves are not power adders. You should have been able to feel the intake and filter alone. Did you give your PCM time to adjust? Have you scanned for KR? |
how ong should i let the pcm adjust, how?

unplug your car battery for about 30 min then plug it back in and start it up.

Then let it re-learn. Mine took over 100 miles before it settled with my new pcm.

At first I thought you were going to ask how do you feel an increase in performance :lol:.
But seriously, you should even feel a difference in something as little as a 180* tstat. I felt a slight difference at higher speeds. You, on the other hand, should be able to smoke the tires off with little pedal effort. -justin |

i change from a 3.8" to a 3.3" pulley and back all the time.
i can feel the difference in power, up or down at first start up. i have yet to unplug my battery. when i want to have FUN i put the 3.3" on when i want good MPG but not as much power the 3.8" goes on . ROD p/s , if someone made a 4" pulley i would buy it just to see if my MPG goes up? |
Changing to a 3.4 pulley should make a very noticeable difference. I know it woke my car up big time. Yes, it will learn after a 100 miles or so and will feel even better. I'm thinking something else is wrong and you're either seeing KR or maybe something with your tranny. On my car with the 3.4, the tires will start spinning at less then half throttle if I'm not careful. You need to scan your car and see what's up. Nobody should mod without being able to scan.

i have a dial ur boost system with a 3.8" and a 3.3" pulley
i can change my pulley in 8 to 10 min. if i take my belt off my mpg goes down with NO POWER. without a belt my ford ranger is quicker(sic). ROD |

also Pulley Boys Qwikchange system make a 3.8" pulley and a 4.0",4.2".
if i did not already have a Dial ur Boost i would get a Pulley Boys system they have the most pulleys to choose from (size wise). NOT (NOT) PULLEY BOYS BUT ZZ Performance ROD |
Why change pullies for milage? If you stay out of boost you should get the same milage.

You are right, if you stay out of the boost. But every freeway overcrossing, every stop light you take off from, you are in the boost. We live in the Sacramento Valley which is pretty flat except for freeway overpasses. When we take a four hundred mile road trip to a sprint car race we see a drop of approximately 3.5 miles a gallon. That is 97% freeway and 3% city. If we drive daily to work we lose approimately 5.5 miles per gallon. We have over 80,000 miles on our modular pulley system, and it didn't matter when premiumn was $1.50 but at $2.50 plus a gallon it costs $45.00 or more to fill up my tank. Call me a cheapskate, but I change the pulley when we go to the drag strip or my wife wants to go out and have fun. (IT IS MY WIFE'S CAR)
