Exhaust cutout
 

Do you guys think i have anything to gain in the 1/4 w/ an exhaust cut out?
Remember i have a 2.25" exhaust.

I always come back to Rogue as an example, running stock exhaust from the Cat back, but in your case, it might actually benefit you.

The most recent issue of High Performanc Pontiac has a little blurb on a GTP owner. He has an exhaust cutout, and made 8 runs total the day they featured him at the track. As expected, it made virtually no difference in the 60', but seems to have made a difference of a tenth of a second on each run that he used it. 5 of 8 runs he had it open.

Hard to say. I don't think anyone here has one. You thinking manual, or electric?

Humm, so a tenth for the gtp..
Ultimately i would like to get an electric one.
These are pretty neat b/c you can adjust how much you actually open up the exhaust with the moving plate.

Oh it's worth it just to play around with other people on the street. Do you still have your resonator? These things sound MAD with nothing but a pipe. :wink:


I fired mine up @ 2am with nothing but a Cat and pipe on it.... :twisted: I have a video but you can't get a feel for the volume of the noise.

I know this is pretty bad/illegal but...
When i thought i had a clogged cat, me and my friend took a sawz all to it and removed it. Needless to say i now had an open exaust.
That was sooooo loud and soooo lopey.(this was after the cam)
It was like a Harley but like 4x as loud.
I was driving on the highway like that and about to pass this mustang.
I drove past him and i just saw this WTF? look on his face
Then he sped up and tried to race me.
It was just funny.

o yeah i still have my resonator.

Nice! Im running not CAT also. Mine died on me about a month ago and i just chopped it off and replaced it with a good ol' stainless steel pipe. All that really happend was very good gas mileage, an awesome throaty exhaust tone when its warm, and the exhaust tips get discoloured much faster from hydrocarbons and increased temps.

Why bother with one? Our parents never had them in their days, but now we have to watch what polution we put into their air after they make ours nice and healthy..

In my opinion cats are just another thing to go wrong on your car to cause big $$$ problems such as burnt valves.. mmmm where do i sign up!!!

So every time you run to the store you have the right to pollute 50x more because you think so? The fine for not having a catalytic converter can be in the thousands of dollars. No one is above the law, or nature for that matter...

I'm right here with ya on this one Jason. I wonder what the fine is in Canada?


And 95naSTA, I hope you only plan to open that on a track and have already checked your local laws regarding it. I know here locally they check for them every year at inspection time.

Now keep in mind i DIDN'T say i still don't have a cat.
Anyways, I was considering putting the cutout after my resonator.
And as for not having a cat or not that's my business. :wink:

I hope yer not in Ontario, because you wont be able to get your license renewed when the 2 year deadline comes up, not to mention Drive Clean Emissions testing and environmental irresponsiblity that we have mentioned over and over and over til the words no longer make sense.

Ministry of Transportation in Ont, has hefty fines for it as well...

The reason our parents cars didnt have cats is because engineers didnt know better, not because the cars were more fuel "effiecient".

A cat converter on a properly designed exhaust (both stock and aftermarket) will maintain good gas milage.
