Default Exhaust

Just a quick question.....isn't the exhaust system on the 2000+ SSEi the same as on a firebird or camaro? I am looking at possiblities right now, but it will be awhile before it gets done.

No, not at all. F-body cars Y-piped after the manifolds into one pipe all the way down the the muffler, and the muffler had dual outs on it. Bonne'* Y-pipe and then have two seperate mufflers on each side.

yep, WAY different, not only are you comparing RWD with FWD, you're also dealing with vastly different wheelbases as well.

I know about the RWD difference(that'* obvious)....and the different wheelbases.... Why can't you get rid of the 2 mufflers...are the hangers different? I am just looking at possible systems that I could modify to work on my car...

Why would you get rid of the two mufflers? There'* no point.

Are you asking if you can use a different type of muffler? That answer is yes, to a point. It will need to fit in the space provided. If you go to a good muffler shop, one that does custom work. You can get just about anything fit in. However, put the wrong type on and the car will not sound right.

I am just brainstorming right now....trying to figure some possibilities out....IDK it was just something I was curious about...I had heard or read somewhere that they F-body had very similar exhaust parts and I was wondering if like a borla system for an F-body would be able to be made to work... I wanted something a little more agressive sounding.. the FWCAI helped to a point but I want to have a little more rumble..

OK, I think I understand what your saying now. You asked the wrong question. The *exhaust* is made to fit each car, the bends and hangers for the most part only fit that car. Now, on the other hand, the muffler will fit many different cars. With 2 mufflers on your car you will want something like a magnaflow or flowmaster series40. That will give you the best sound as far as a rumble goes.

Flowmaster 40 sounds like *** on our cars IMO. Very ricer-rific. I like YoungLS1'* mufflers.

If you remove the resonator it will sound very raspy. There are a lot of different factors involved in the exhaust note. Mufflers are what everyone thinks of. But the resonator, cat, headers, rockers, cam, size of the pipes, even how much boost is being used. This all changes the note. A free flowing cat will deepen the note. When I went with a series80 I thought it sounded good, but not as deep as I wanted. A free flow cat, got it deeper, headers dropped it again, high ratio rockers again dropped the note. A V6 engine will always have a bit of rasp, there'* just no way around it. But you can get a good idle and a pretty good WOT. But there is a middle point, that just wont clean up.
