Exhaust for 1999 SSEI
 

I recently purchased a Magnaflow Cat. Conv. (MPE-23437 ) for my 99 SSEI. This part has been on b/o for 3 weeks now. I want to continue the exhaust system beyond the cat. However, I can't find any manufacturer offering a performance upgraded exhaust system for my vehicle. None of the parts distributors have any solutions for me. What do you recommend I get that will work with my supercharger? I saw in other posts that a 2.5" will work. Is there a model/parts number I can look up? Please give me a website I can check out if you can.

the stock piping is 2.5 on your SSEi.....change the muffler for sound only, you cannot outflow your stock muffler....

look for an F-body muffler, anything that fits that will fit your car

Magnaflow p/n 12266 is a fit for the '99 ;)

I realize you're new here, so "welcome". But really, check out our amazing "Search" function, because there's probably been dozens of us that have done exhaust upgrades on our 92-99 Bonnevilles. There's many, many threads that include step-by-step details of what we did, including photographs.

In general, the process for your SSEi would be to keep the stock pipes and to replace the CAT and Mufflers with high performance models. You already have the CAT, so all you'd want is mufflers. The most common high performance mufflers we've used in this group are Magnaflow and Flowmaster, single-inlet, dual-outlet mufflers. People have already posted the model number for the Magnaflow for you. That's what I have as well, and I got it at http://www.justmagnaflow.com so you really can't get much easier than that. You have the part number and the place to get it at the best cost. Have at it.

But definitely check out the Search function, it's REALLY easy to use and usually gets you EXACTLY what you're looking for in just one search.

Thanks all for the helpful tips! I've installed the Cat and the smaller pulley. Oh my, I didn't realize this engine can put out so much torque! This Saturday, I'm removing the resinator to bypass it. Will that do anything to the performance? I've read that no performance is noticible.

The sound will be less "mellow" than it is now. It will sound raspy, with a little bit of cackle in the exhaust note. Some dislike the sound without the resonator, and some find it exhilirating. If you want it to sound more like a deep, "round" V8 sound, keep the resonator. If not, you'll get a sound that is muscular, but has overtones of a harsh race motor or import car.

99, what size pulley did you go to?

Wow! That is the most detailed and thoughtful description I've seen to describe this sound. Very tactful and allowing one to make a somewhat informed decision. All that writing has been rubbing off, lol. ;)

Not sure of the diameter, but the pulley is by SLP - # 100227

Just trying to give him a good idea of his options. We just did the straight shot exhaust on my car, and we made sure to start the engine and listen to the exhaust note with many different exhaust configurations mocked up, including straight out of the downpipe. I've personally heard how my car can sound with and without a resonator, and it can be good both ways.

Cool, I think I want that "meatier" sound. I'd like to go w/ a different muffler (currently OEM), but I heard that it won't improve performance, just changes the pitch. Is that correct? I noticed that the cat made a big difference, but then again, the cat I had was rattling around and probably slowing the car down anyway.
