Brainstorming for down the road.

Well I haven't looked into much yet because I didn't plan on mod-ing farther with this engine. But I figure she'* got quite a bit of left left in 'er. So, what are my next options performance wise for the Series 1 L27. I know there isn't as much or very little compared to the Series II but what'* out there for me.

I do plan on switching to a FWI in the future.

What'* your budget?

Wow. I thought there was a difference between the series 1 and 2 and most of it didn't work. Awesome.

Budget, right now nothing...but generaly I generaly have 200 - 400-ish to play with(lately I have had tuition and books to pay on my own, and i just shelled out roughly 160 on the muffler and installation, Tires are next as I need them badly. I try to save it but alot goes into gas( I have made a few road trips to univierities around Va. to visit freinds. But I'm in school now and things are starting to settle down and I'm back in work (Only about 6-8 hours a week).

So right now I guess I'm just trying to make a plan, looking at around the winter holiday to start something.

Nearly everything for the S2 can be had for the S1. It'* just a little harder to find.

Oh, ok. Well still, I didn't know there was that much available for the Series 1.

Another way to look at this is my goal for next summer is to break into mid 15'*. Which probably isn't that hard, I'm at 16.27 as of friday night.

I'm working on P&P an L27 lower intake, along with smooth the runners. The runners are rough-cast and have much material that can be removed.

I have also found that S1'* have quite a few casting flash points in the coolant ports. Knocking these out won't increase horsepower any, but will open up flow in the cooling circuit slightly.

That'* a very tall order. Mid 15'* in an L27, that is.

At WCBF '04 with very mild mods, I ran a 15.6 at Woodburn, and dj2005 ran a 16.6. Granted it was very hot, and most people were running 1/2 second slow that year because of it (others at the track besides us), but your goal is 92/93 SSEi territory. That'* going to be a bit more than 200-400 bucks.

Well maybe we'll delay that goal a bit, more of an overall goal. Does breaking into 15.9s fit the budget a bit better?

Ok, it'* hard to say, because nobody has really modded an L27 on this Forum aside from the basic bolt-on'*.

My suggestion based on what I've learned on the Series 1 in the last couple years:

1. Fix the EM cracks, reinstall with gaskets. FREE if you have a friend with a welder
2. Port-match the LIM ports to the cylinder heads (don't match to the gaskets). FREE

4. GOOD CAI. Shield yours very well. Nearly FREE
5. High-flow Cat. It'll do more for you than that muffler, and you'll need it for this:
6. 1.8 YT rockers. Keep stock pushrods and springs.

Much of your car'* performance is your tires and you. You could shave 1-2 tenths in the car'* present form depending on those two things.

If you can shave a tenth in it'* present form, the above list might get you to 15.6 to 15.7. VERY noticeable in the seat of the pants.

Not including gaskets, you'll be in $550 for the PCM and rockers.
