Stroker Crank
Anyone know where to find a stroker crank for a Series I 3800 SC?
I think it would be pretty sweet
Get a larger stroke and more displacement, im always in the mood for some (or alot) of that!
For those that dont know what this is, its basically a crank shaft with larger stroke, to produce more torque at lower RPM'*, while sacrificing high RPM reliability. Obviously with a larger stroke you dont want to be in the 6000rpm range. But we dont burn rice so why be there anyway?
Anyway, Im sure there is something. I was thinking even a crank from a 4.3, since it shares the same block as the 3.8L (so i've heard from many people)
Im guessing if this is true, the 4.3 actually gains displacement by the larger stroke. Whatever the case is, I WANT A STROKER CRANK!!!
Actually, why not buy a 4.3, mod it for supercharged use, throw a supercharger on there, i bet that beast would put out some serious torque

The 4.3 is similar to the Gen II or gen III v8 depending on which one you have, not the 3.8L v6. The only engine similar to the 3800 is the 3300 used in the early nineties. Whomever told you that was misinformed.
A stroker crank will mess with compresion ratio, and on an SC you dont' want it higher.
What'* wrong with High RPM'*? There'* a reason Stock bonnies run 15.0 sec or higher in the 1/4 mile.

Damn i never thought of the compression ratio part of it..
Couldn't things be done to offset that change, like piston size? Things like that

that would be interesting for someone with some free time/cash to check out ... if the 4.3 crank is close... I wouldn't use any 4.3 parts though... I would bet money they 4.3 crank is weaker then the 3800 crank...
BUT ... on the off chance that the 4.3 crank is CLOSE demension wise bearings and block machining would probably make it fit (hell of alot less expensive then custom crank) without boring the cylinders though it would probably only take you to 4.1 L not 4.3
IF it were to work it really wouldn't be that expensive once you get right down to it... 4.3 crank and rods... oversized 3800 pistons ... and block machining
anyways... unless someones gonna go through the process of precision measuring out both cranks... bearing sizes, ,rods... etc... I don't think we 're gonna get a "for sure" answer
on a side note : displacement + high revs... with the cam for the higher revs and variable lifters = POTENT engine... displacement and the variable lifters give you the grunt down low to take off ... and the valve train and cam (variable lifters ramp up to full cam specs) will give you that top end to run away... throw some boost or nitrous at it on top of that... you've got a weekend killer... and a relatively docile daily driver/street car
remeber .. bolt on parts are fun... but thinking outside the box is what enables you to REALLY **** ppl off

Yesum, it lives. I'm talking to the guy thats running it in his. If you're interested I can get more info, I just didn't think anyone would care much for a $1300 crank along with the extra $ needed to make it happen

pistons ? rings ? rods ? Balancing ?
I'm ( unfortunately ) always interested in ways to go faster.
I may be more willing to put the Bonny on laughing gas if I know a good stroker crank exist to replace the broke one ...
