Default PCM Questions - I know this has been a topic before!

There are a few PCM'* out there now, and I've watched in the beginning about who has what features, but I have not been on this board for sometime and the PCM'* should all have some kind of track record now. So my Question is what are the features and benifits of each of them. I think there are 3 or 4 makers now. Please help me with this one.

Thanks

Hey there, Yes there are quite a few makers of the pcm'*. But the best people I've found to deal with are by far and away INTENSE Racing. They spend the money to build, test, tune, and tweak everything they do. So you can be sure that the pcm you get from them is going to perform just like they say.

Not only that I have one and love it.

We have some of their own employees on this message board as a matter of fact.

Rogue is one, and he knows everything. He knows what you'll ask before you do and he'll have the answer by the time you can ask him.

Just ask around everyone else will tell you the same thing.

I believe, howevere i could be wrong that the intense PCM has a better handle on the torque managemnt controls in the PCM, i would trust Intense more, because they have bonnevilles and work on bonnevilles probably more than any of the other makers and therefore probably have a better burn for bonneville specific controls.

The two well known and proven PCM'* are the Intense and the DHP. I've used both, and there is quite a difference. However, the code for the Bonnies are different from the code for the GP'*, so I may not be able to give specific differences for Bonnies.

Overall, I find that the DHP gives much harder shifts. I only turn Peformance Shift on when I really need it. The Intense PCM is a little more forgiving in the shifts. Also, I find that the DHP gives me much more top end grunt. This is mainly due to a lower timing advance that it gives me. With the Intense unit, I was running a very high timing advance, which was giving me KR, especially in the upper RPM range, which hurt my top end. But I guess now when you buy an Intense PCM, you can choose what you wanna do with your timing. Also, with both PCM'*, you get skip shifts. They can be a lot of fun when you really wanna take off.

Most Bonnie owners seem quite happy with the Intense unit, and it'* a great bang for the buck. But if you wanna spend more for the DHP, go for it. It'* a very good PCM as well. I highly recommend it.

From my perspective, INTENSE has the best customer service and turnaround time. And INTENSE does alot more work on Bonnevilles than DHP. ZZP as well for that matter. Nobody knows the Bonneville PCM as well as INTENSE, considering they have two cars in their own stable in the 10'* and 12'*, and their PCM'* power our top 10 Series 2 cars.

I just glanced at your mod list. I know you are probably just doing research, but you are probably going to want to start off with some other bolt-ons before you consider a new PCM. These PCM'* enhance all your other mods, so you'll want to do this after an intake, pulley, and t-stat.

9 of the top 10 Bonnevilles run the INTENSE PCM.

I haven't updated the mod'* yet. Will get to it later. BTW what do you all think of the NGK or Denso Iridium Plugs.

Iridium is great for longevity (as is platinum) however for performance I recommend autolite copper plugs (104 for mildly modded bonnies)

I plan on mod'ing pretty much next year want to get about 300 to 310 hp Thats about it. Don't really want to spend the money on an intercooler or anything that elaborate. But just do some modest enhancements. Just kind of working on this little by little and so I've just been doing things like Plugs, Lights, rotors, Pads, tires, and air filter. I'll probably do some of the things like mod'ing the airbox, 3.4" pulley, muffler, cat, pcm and next year probably do the top end engine stuff.
