Decoupler Pulley Retrofit
Hello All,
I was driving my 1997 LeSabre to work today like usual. Out of habit I backed off the throttle a bit as it was about to shift from first gear to second gear. It occurred to me that a significant part of that "kick" when shifting gears is the five (or more) pounds of alternator spinning three-odd times as fast as the crankshaft with a lot of leverage working against the crankshaft slowing down. I did the math just now and it works out to over 11,000RPM at say 4,000RPM engine speed with ~2.8:1 leverage over the crankshaft pulley.
This leads me to a fun idea: Anyone have thoughts on converting to a decoupler pulley like most of the new cars have? Is the shaft size and/or pulley depth and/or pulley size compatible?
