Crazy Question but...
I want to paint my car come spring and I want it to be black. However, black absorbs heat, duh. My question is will there be a possibility that this heat will create a KR problem? My car is white now. I don't think having a white car is a curse, as a matter of fact for us L67 owners its a blessing. Not much sunlight heat being absorbed to the engine bay. I just think black is a much more bad a$$ looking color than white.

If I repainted mine, it'd be black.
I wouldn't worry too much about the KR. If you find it's a problem, it's a good excuse to get some very subtle louvers in the hood for heat extraction. ;) |
I think is real far fetched that the color of you car will change engine heat.
But, if your going with black, beware, that color makes imperfections stand out the most out of any color. And White is the best color to paint you car to cover up imperfections. Can't tell you why but i knwo it's true. Ask a painter. I would seriously consider painting it white agian. It will cover up any little dings and it will match your jambs. (painting the jambs sometimes ends up costing as much as painting the car since it has to go in the paint booth twice) Oh and what ever color you decide to paint it, take everything off your car you can. Like head/tail lights, trim, spolier(bring it w/ you of course) , rubber around doors ect. It makes the paint job 100 times better. just my $.02 :) |
oh and i really can't spell.

It needs to be painted regardless of color because of severe paint damage. I know white covors up blemishes. I just think black kinda gets people's attention more. I also think it looks rich. However, you're right about the door jams and such would all have to be repainted too. What a deilema. :?

White paint reflects more light so the imperfections are harder to see where as black absorbs the light bringing out the blemishs.
Changing the color is going to cost more because of the extra time for door jambs etc You could stay with the white and put the extra money it would cost into changing the color into the motor for some added oomph to go with the clean white paint. Go with really big hp numbers and pick up the name "The Vanilla Gorilla".......just a thought? :D |
Be prepared for a lot, and I do mean a lot, of prep work if you are going with black. Lots of guide coats to get all of the dings, dents, chips and so forth out before painting.

Hey, a clean white car can look "rich" too  8)
(especially w/ gold rims) :) |
a color change paint job including jambs will cost you about 3 to 4k
