Pondering Exhaust...I'm lost
So. My husband and I were sitting in my car yesterday waiting for his truck to have some maintenance work done. They drive it past us to test something out. His truck is straight-piped and louder than crap (sounds great though). So I bring up that I was thinking of maybe doing something to my exhaust this summer. He instantly thinks to straight-pipe it, but I've never heard a straight-piped GM 3800 before. He has heard a Grand Prix though and said it sounded good.
I just want to amplify the sound I get when I'm accelerating. I love the grunt and want others to hear it too...I'm not sure if I'd split it into duals or just have one tip, I'd like duals I think but then, what tips??? Tips totally make or break it, In my opinion. Heh I had a glasspack on my first car, a 1990 Taurus, and it sounded like a dying bumble bee with a rev limiter.
So, any suggestions as to what I should do??? I think if I did do exhaust it'd be the last 'mod' I'll do, so I'd want to do it right.

I've heard an open exhaust 3800, and I've heard a sound clip from one with just glasspacks. It sounds ROTTEN. Not really what you want to do with a V6.
I'd replace the cat and muffler with hi-flow components, and I think you'll be pleased. If it'* not enough for you at that point, you can remove the resonator.

Glasspacks in a Y from one pipe are good, but it'* not worth the fab.

If your just looking for a more aggressive sound, a higher flow muffler and removing the resonator is the way to go. A high flow cat is a good addition as well but maybe money you do not need to spend if your just looking for an aggressive exhaust tone.

I got a Flowmaster 80 Series and a High-Flo cat on my '89 and it sounds awesome. It is loudest at 2000RPM'*, and it is very deep and aggressive. It was definatly worth it.
