Intake Question
Ok. I just have a quick question. I know there are many ways to build a cheap intake. I was just wondering if i could take my air box off off an then just attach a K&N filter right onto the end of that flex tube. I know it wouldn't be at long as the other intakes, but does that make a difference. Becuase there is a braket around the tube that actually goes into the engine, but than there is another braket where the air box attaches. I just eant to attach a filter to the end of that second one.

You could do that, but the stock tube with the "accordian" like design is not the best for performance. You would be much better off buying one from Hector @ http://www.angryducktofuracing.com
An aluminum pipe (or steel) that keeps the airflow going straight into the engine is better than just attaching a cone filter to the stock tube. If Will responds to this he'll explain everything in more detail I'm sure.
If you're looking for the best performance, an intake from Hector is your best bet. If you're looking for something that'* very inexpensive, then I guess you could keep the flex tube. But Hector'* is only $150, which is a great price. Good luck.

Actually a flex tube is just fine..and ask Scott what he thinks about his?
Scott has the fastest 2000 Bonneville on this board from what I know of.
There are a few options but you will gain performance with that mod and yes it is cheaper than spending 80-100-or 150.00. If you leave on your maf screen you will be just fine.
I have other tech info to back up this claim but first I will wait to see what arguments I get on the idea. In the mean time go for it and enjoy the performance gain you get. I can also steer you in the right direction for a cheap K&N cone.

MAF = Mass Air Flow
The MAF screen helps straighten the air out ( remove turbulance ) from the air passing through teh MAF sensor.
Speedguy.. if the accordian tube can be used in place of the tubing.. what size diameter should be fitted inside to keep the filter from crimpin? This trick would only work if the MAF screen is on ? CAuse I wouldn't mind going that route then if that'* the case but I already removed the MAF screen on mine and kinda ruined the screen on removal so I don't think it'* going back on

Ok the info is basically on this site..but who wants to go through all the info?? Not me so I will spell out a bit of the info.
Mass Air Flow sensor. lets the computer know what amount of air is entering the intake.
the screen in front of it is designed to straighten the flow so your MAF can rear the flow properly. It is needed due to the use of the flexible piping you noted earlier.
The only thing that is a bit off in the write up is the fact that there have been intake kits for this car for a long time just no one hunted them down.
The other important piece of info is a flexible insulated pipe set up properly will out perform a smooth walled aluminum or steel unit. The aluminum units are the best but still unless it is insulated you will still get better performance for alot less. Why do you not see alot of insulation on intakes??? LOL it Looks Cool to see the colorful pipe or shiny pipe. So if you are after a cheap solution with equal power keep your maf screen on use a flexible pipe with a insulated housing and you will have true performance at a reduced cost. I have access to such a kit if you are interested but really your current idea will match most kits available if you insulate it.
If you want the next best thing go aluminum and make sure the product has been properly flow tested. These I do offer but they are $200.00 due to the cost of paying an engineer to do it. Really the intake kits are no more than a thin walled pipe that is very light and does not feel like it is worth 80.00 let alone 200.00. There is merit but for a stock car flexible pipe with a K&N is equally performance worthy.
CAI stands for Cold air intake means it has to have a box to keep the incoming air cool.
FWI (this is what Scott used with flexible pipe) Fender well Intake. This gives you direct contact with outside air without the need for a box to reduce the air temp. Some say it exposes the K&N to too much road debris and dirt, but really it is a great solution if set up properly.
Ram Air, lol a seriously misused term. It means ramming air into the intake to increase the amount of air and reduce the temp. Actually useless unless you reach serious speed. That said I am building a true ram air for our cars but just have to find the time to finish it.

I can have a tube sent to you (free) and the only thing you would need is the filter. I will get you a filter at cost and send it to ya if you are interested.
I was going to set up a deal for a kit and yes the cost in Canada will not include GST or any border cost. Oh wait I think they hid the GST and called it something else now. So Drifter you can test it out and tell me what you think and if there is enough need ill supply them for cheap, Canada and the US.

no, i'm not in canada, i'm in south carolina. I don't know how much those things run at the store, but if shipping is cheaper. i'm definally interested. thanks for all the advice guys. Where exatally is the mass air flow located in the intake?

ok so this new pipe is going to replace the acordean oem and give you a solid place to put the k&n filter. I allso was wondering the same thing.

what did you mean by fender well intake by using the stock tube or am i missing something
and i would realy like to do this mod to my car. so i would like to know how much would i be spening on this to get a gain on the system
