Change thermostat when changing chip?

I´ve spoken to a a company back home here in Sweden that sells spare and performance parts for American cars. He said he could get a stage 2 Chip for my car, but that i should also change the thermostat. To get the engine to run cooler cause the igniton will run higer.

Is it necessary?

I´ve never heard about that when chipping European cars.

yes most Chips/PCM's will require you to change the T'stat to 180 or lower

Jet makes a Chip for your 93, willwren has it for his SSEi

The reason for this is that they change the radiator fans turn on at a lower temp. If you run a 195 tstat when the PCM turns the fans on at 180, the fans will run all the time once the engine reaches operating temps.

I would change the T-stat to 180 regardless, its a good safety measure.

I´ve just been in contact with a good company here, there gonna build a direct air system with a 3# Apexi open filter, Sport exhaustsystem, and i´m gonna order the chip and T-stat.

Hope that will give me som extra power.
