Used Rollmaster timing set; new question about JWIS chain
I'm not sure I'll be able to find an offset cam key for my upcoming degreeing job... so I was wondering if anybody thinks it would be stupid to find a used Rollmaster set and install it. What do you guys think? Good or bad idea? Doug and I don't think there will be any problem, but I thought I would throw it out to the rest of the forum.

Would depend on the price new vs used and milage on it.
You don't want anything that was worn in on another motor. Yours might have a different wear pattern.
Honestly..unless the price is huge, with all the work you have already done..it would be in your best interests to go new.

Genuine Rollmaster timing sets in a street application, will last forever. A friend had a Rollmaster set on a 918 HP Chevy small block drag engine for two years, before he switched to a Jesel belt drive. He removed the timing set and it barely had any stretch; we are talking 918 Hp, turning 9,800 RPM'*! NASCAR guys have also used Rollmaster sets for seasons with no problems. As a matter of fact, the billet sets sold by Crane Cams, are Rollmaster sets.
Good luck on your search. I will try to find out the size of the OEM cam key to see if there is a matching offset key.

I already sent Todd a PM, but can anyone else verify if Intense was selling Rollmaster sets with the JWIS chain in April of 2005? I'm looking at a used set for a good price, but I want to make sure I'm getting the good chain and not that crappy 'Rolan' chain I hear about. Thanks!

TTT with an update.
Been slaving away tonight. Intake was already off, so was the rear mani, but here is what I accomplished.
I swear. The thing didn't fight us as much this time, and Ben wasn't around to get a smashed finger!
This looks all too familiar. I still hate that engine mount with a passion.
The old and the.... used.
And the one thing that an EGR delete IS good for.....
Clean runners!

Well actually I was thinking about turning the crank one way and the cam another and then bolting it together and seeing what happened. The goal IS to blow it up after all! Now to dig that link up.

Doug, you are the MAN! Way to go, dude. Looks like you got plenty of coolant on my dad'* nice clean shop floor, though..... tsk tsk . Did your dad give you some good tips on degreeing the cam and properly using that Rollmaster? You can wait until I get home to install it if you want, because I rescheduled my dyno tune for Friday the 17th.
By the way, it ocurred to me that I never ordered a new timing chain dampener. The current one was new in November, so should I pick up another one? Any opinions, guys?
