Default Rotating them tires

A friend of mine suggested not rotating, as you will be able to control your forward motion relatively easily, and the back end has less chance of sliding out on those "high risk" maneuvers.

Your friend is an idiot, but I bet the tire stores like him.

I seem to have a few of those will. He was telling me from experience with completely bald tires on the back. This is mainly from him smoking his tires and skidding around all the time. I guess its time to rotate my tires then, as I do not follow his suggestions too much. Kinda sad for whoever gets him as a mechanic I guess, He is going to UTI to become ASE certified.

I have to agree with Will. If the tires arent safe enough to put in the rear then they definently arent safe enought to leave up front. Just finished rotating my tires earlier this morning.

If you want to buy new tires every year, by all means don't rotate them.
But it is illegal to have less than 1/16 tread on a tire. Maybe that varies by state?

I want my tires to last as long as I can. Money doesn't grow on trees around me. I don't rotate the specified 7500 miles, but I do it every other oil change which is around 10,000 miles. I use mobile one synthetic and I tend to go 5000 before I change the oil.

Be sure to check with your tire vendor. Many of them rotate for free.

My tires are the OE Goodyear RS-A'*. I don't think my dealer will rotate them for free at my asking, unless of course, I was in for something else and then they might. They were on the car when I bought it used in 2002. I'm trying to get them to last at least until the winter, perhaps longer if the plug I got put in it last year holds out a bit more!

Oh, BTW I have 40,000 miles on those tires. Not bad considering the 260 or 280 treadwear rating I have. I'm hoping to get them to last to 50k miles. If the plug holds up on the one tire, I should easily do that.
