I am going to get all these parts installed within a week or two so I would like some suggestions or tips....

xp cam
105# Crowe Cam springs
ls retainers (intense)
valve seals (zzp)
stock timing chain
New belts (napa)
coolant elbows
oil and filter
transmission fluid
coupler (making noise)

rocker bolts
timing chain dampener
assembly lube
valve cover gaskets (reuse gromments, gaskets have less than 15k miles)
I am looking at just ordering the zzp cam install kit option #4

Sounds like your in good shape. You will need to have the P0300 code removed from your PCM. Also, when you remove your old cam, be careful when doing it. You don't want to bump the bearings. So remove it slow and straight. Same when installing the new cam. Pay very close attention to the dots on the balancer and gears. Take a picture of each as you install them. That way you can go back and make sure you did it right.

Instead of geting the gaskets from the ZZP cam install kit buy a lower conversation kit from advance or such. You get many more gaskets for only a little more money.
Also get the Aluminum gaskets from GM. The ZZP ones always seems to fit a little funny. They must store them under an engine block or something.
Also get the dorman Fuel injector O-ring kit so you can replace lower O-rings putting the injectors back into the heads.
Are you pulling the Engine or just dropping it low enough for the cam to slide in?

Well I just replace the o-rings less than 15k miles ago so i know those are in good shape. I will take them out and wipe them real good.

I know a mechanic that works with chevy and he is going to do the installation at his garage. He said he would charge me $250 for a cam and rockers installation but since I am getting just a cam I am expecting the price to drop. Also, he said if I help him with installation the price will drop also.

I read on another forum that after you install the cam you should run the car a few thousand miles and then do a pan drop and put in new fluid. Is this sound correct or can I just put in new fluid after the cam install and be done with it?

Never heard of anyone having to drop the pan after a cam change. But I would suggest changing the oil shortly after because you will have assembly lube in the engine.

A cam job for even $250 is a good price. It'* a good 10 hour job.

You should be able to drop another pulley or two, but only when scanning. So I suggest investing in a aeroforce scan gauge if you don't already have one. Your also going to need some tuning, so find a local member with tuning software.

Yeah he told if he was going to do this by himself that I would just drop the car off in the morning and pick up the next morning but hopefully with an extra set of hands we can get this done in no time. I know taking your time is very important.

Should I go ahead get a Hardened 4th Clutch Shaft? What kind of things can I do to the engine to give it some new life? I have a 147k on the engine/trans

If you want to price to drop because you are not doing rockers that is void. The rockers have to come off anyways to get the cam out.

Doing any thing to the trans is a project on it'* own. The harden fourth gear shaft requires the side cover to come off. Granted with the engine out it'* real easy to pull the trans out. Something to think about. But you are looking at at least 3 all out days of work (if your good and lucky)

Too add new life when the engine is out. Just a few things
  • Clean it
  • Replace all the soft gaskets
  • oil pressure mod

Have you thought about the rollmaster double timing chain vs stock?
