I remember seeing a table somewhere I think ZZP showing CFM'* with different intake set-ups and taking out the Throttle body screen seem to help our 3.8'* breath significantly better. I don't see a point to them other than to save "monkeys" from poking the MAF sensor. So here is how to remove it.

Before you start make sure you have a set of ring pliers. Look like this:

To take ring clips off that look like this:


Once you get those you can remove the screen when you get to it.

First you need to remove the back half of your air box. easily done by unscrewing it from the front box and taking off the hose clamp seen here.


So then you have just the hose like this:


The tube is just on the Throttle Body by a lip so us some fineness and pull it off by rolling it slowly just don't pull on it like an angry ape.

Now you have this scene:


Take your special pliers and fit the points in the ring clamp holes squeeze and pull it out:


once you take the ring clip out you can use a small screw driver and slip the screen out

Now that you have the screen out look and is how restrictive the screen was and how open the throttle body is.
Put your tube back on the lip of the throttle body, the back of your air box on the tube and put your two box pieces together and your set. Welcome to a freer breathing Bonneville.

Also on the ring pliers... if that ring isn't going back on anyway, for those of us without ring pliers could we not just use any other tool/method to get it off?

Could use needle nose to twist it out maybe idk never tried on ring clips like that. Just have to be careful because the MAF is right behind that screen. Also do not want to damage the throttle body at all. Side effects none bad I see anything that frees up the path can only be beneficial. Thanks for the compliment.

Just like using a knife to gut the air box. It comes from being a construction worker, I have a set certain tools in my tool bag that I am comfortable with and are fairly adaptable and I use for all situations. Unless I need to go get the crow bar and super sazzaw from the truck, then we're getting down to business, oh snap!

Thank a lot, now I can do that when I gut my airbox, two mods at the same time! Might as well pick up some cleaner to clean the maf sensor while I'm at it.

The screen in TB is there for 1) protect the MAF and 2) to help linear air flow through the TB. If the MAF get'* damaged, you'll be digging into your wallet to replace it, because your car is not going to run without it.

IMO - Leave the screen in. You will not see any performance increase in HP.

When you do the MAF you need a T20H bit to take the MAF out of the throttle body don't think it'* wise to clean it in the TB. Any time I'm getting comfortable with this car so need anything don't be afraid to ask.

I took mine out because it was for some reason... i swear i have no idea why, it was like this when i got the car... no longer in the good condition "honey comb" shape/appearance but more like a condenser after several bugs hit it at highway speeds... it looked more restrictive than helpful in its condition so i removed the screen and the TB, cleaned the TB, unclogged the pivot points on the butterfly that was sticking, and reinstalled... not much difference so IF its in good condition... leave it be... id hate to imagine what it saved the SuperCharger by taking damage like it had, but im glad it WAS there

prolly get another one at some point but moneys tight right now

PS/EDIT: I removed the C - clip with needle nose pliers, because of lacking the proper tools... but it worked lol

So on the one hand we have increased HP, on the other hand no change in HP. Lets take the minimum middle ground: Slightly increased air flow, no HP difference. Is it worth it?

Well if you're into racing and are really desperate to lose weight off your car... skip lunch and take out the body screen and you'll have a couple less pounds to drive around.

more like a couple less ounces... its aluminum at approx 1/4 thick, just enough to stop anything bigger than sand, and to straighten the curved airflow so it goes through the MAF Sensor. It yes will allow slightly more air into it, but not enough to increase HP, but prolly enough at WOT to kill off a couple more MPGs lol

so put it back? hmmm got a little over zelous? I thought it was a guard from people because turbo'* have it but that'* because someone ground their finger off in the blade.
