Thumbs up Type of gas for SSEi?

Hi,

Was wondering if I should use only 92-93 octane gas in my 2002 SSEi?

You should be using a premium fuel with the SC motor. 91 octane or higher.

I've been xclusively using the shell v-power. I think its 92 or 93 and it'* supposed to help in keeping all your fuel related components clean.

I'm poor so I get regular, but if I could afford it I would always ride around on mid-grade since it does give that little extra kick. But I can't, so I only fill up premium and add a bottle of STP when going on longer trips.

My wife drove the Bonneville since 2002 (2000 SSEI) and only put in standard unleaded, never premium. Not sure how much it cuts down on the performance but we have not had a fuel releated issue using the cheap stuff.

I only use premium, in fact i get the check engine light if i accelerate using lower grade like 87 or 89. 91 or higher is all i use. I learned my lesson after the first two tanks

I found I get 3+ MPG more with premium gas. This more then off sets the higher price. Not to mention you must use the higher octane because of the pressures run with a supercharger.

I get better MPG with premium as well. Typically 2 to 3 MPG better. It'* hard to hear over the SC whine and engine noise, but with the cheaper gas you're probably pinging on acceleration. That pinging really ruins your car'* performance, and can lead to engine damage.
