2010 YUKON BROKEN MIRROR Question
Hello All,
I really didn't know where to post this. So here goes.
My 12 year old daughter was side-swiped as she crossed the street on high school grounds. Going into the high school.
The car that hit her was a 2010 yukon xl hybrid. She was "clipped" by the passenger mirror, spun and knocked to the ground.
The woman did not stop until my husband yelled that she hit our daughter. At which point she stopped, got out and blurted " I wasn't even going that fast".
Evidently it was fast enough because the passenger mirror was hanging off. Now you have to understand that the vehicle caught my daughter on THE BACK of the ARM and shoulder, so the passenger side caught my daughter on the LEFT arm.
The vehicle struck her with the BACK or (white) part of the mirror, not the actual mirror side.
So here'* my question. Does anyone know where I would find data such as what amount of force it would take, or what speed she may have been traveling at, to break that mirror off?
I do not know if those mirrors fold in. If they do, it may have ricocheted off the glass as it swung in when it made contact with my daughter.
I'd appreciate any help.
I've attached a picture of the mirror after the accident.
My daughter did get her arm/shoulder/back injured, but it could have been fatal. If she was a little shorter she would have been hit in the head by that mirror.
Thank you so much!
Eleni

sorry about your daughter. i cant believe people though not sorry or cant believe i did that, i wasnt going fast. what a big b.
as far as the mirror i would imagine it would have to have been going pretty fast as, if it was slow the mirror would just bend out of the way or your daughter would have. dont have anything more scientific than that except every gm after early 90'* i have had, had some sort of fold away setup on there

Thank you so very much. Do I dare post what her license plate is...you won't believe this one. Her plate is "IRUSH1". She still has it too. People never cease to amaze me. Who knows, maybe someone will have a resource.

As many times as my wife has bashed the yellow pillars at McDonalds with her blazer and folds the mirror in, I'd have to say, this RUSH lady was doing excess of 15-20MPH when it happened. Which is probably too fast for a school zone anyway.
