Default HUD in other h-bodys?

Don't know if this is just brainstorming mechanically, but seemed like the right place to post this. Is it possible to take a HUD from a Grand Prix or a Bonney and put it in another h-body , say a 94 buick lesabre? Is that possible, would it be difficult to do?

JUst a thought.

Not a problem! Just need some parts to do it! A hud module, "Ghost" windshield, switch, relays, wiring, etc....

Really, it requires that much. On the Grand Prix boards typically you buy the HUD unit and you splice it into the appropriate wires and it works. And yes the ones that were not supposed to have the HUD unit did not change the windshield but it still works the same. Not much differnce between the windshields.

We had an older member (as in awhile ago) that was an electrical engineer. He installed one in a 1990 Bonneville SE. I'll try to find the post. Yes it worked, but he was slightly irritated with the double image his non-hud windshield created. What he gained from the mod was attention from other people.

would u really have to buy the whole windshield or would it be possible to overlay that portion of your exitening windshield with some sort of clear overlay that would reduce the double image? Probably sounds nieve, but just a thought. Also what would the HUD module, switch relays wiring go for about, and its it a lot of splicing? Oh, also would i have to get a HUD from around the same year as my car, or would any year HUD work?

Any auto glass installation shop would have the optical coating. Goes on wet, then dries clear. It'* not quite as good as the factory coated windshield, but it'* cheaper. Won't distort your vision either.

If you want the hud to be totally capable, I'm going to guess you'll have at least a dozen wires to run and splice. I've never had mine out to count. Not going to for you, either, unless you shave your legs

The HUD displays the following: Vehicle speed in kmh or mph, turn signals, check gauges, and low fuel (this would be a Hud from the early 90'*) There are also different huds for adjustment. 92/93 were a mechanical height adjust, 94-96 were electrical (more wires to splice, but you could mount the controls just about anywhere without being restricted by cable length) and 97-99. This last HUD may give you trouble due to OBDII electronics in the PCM. The 00-03 HUD would be a nightmare. Much more to display including radio frequency....what all else, I don't know. You'll have to make your choices wisely on where you mount the controls based on this info. FYI, the dealer retail on a new hud ranges from 900-1300 bucks. gmpartsdirect should be about half that price, and no telling what a wrecker would want. You need the HUD and control panel as a matched set from the same car. I also suggest a factory schematic before attempting this!

Cool.. So far windshield...check

Shaving legs......not worth it at the moment but i might get desperate enough

I'll probably go with a 94-96 hud just to keep it fairly resonable to do. Now, would it matter if i got these parts off a grand prix insted of a bonny, or are they the same thing?

And were might i find the schematics i need?

Thanks
Michael..

i should really get to bed now damn ideas keep me up to late, 2am and i have classes at 8, d'oh.

Usually about 3-4 times more expensive. Can you claim it on your insurance like most of us do? I just did another one 2 months ago. I usually do one a year.
