I'm probably gonna end up getting these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2411330170 and making one of them a functional ram air duct. I'll install them down in the front of the hood.
My question is, what about all the rain exposure directly to the filter? Since my k&n is oil coated is this enough?
If i make an inclosure for the filter that has a hose at the bottom for the water to go will that work?

Well I'm assuming you're puttin them on the hood directly above the stock airbox area ? ( based on your sig ). Well I wouldn't suggest it however since K&N like you said does use oil treatment on the filter. A lot of members from this forum and others have noticed that if you over oil you're air filter.. you run into the problem of having the oil run through the system gunkin up a lot of crap along the way and causing havoc. Well with rain, wind, and how fast you go in rain.. I'd think it would pelt at the filter enough that may force some ( may not be a lot ) of the oil off the filter and into the TB gunkin it up. If you possibly made a system that has some kinda door hinge or some sort that allows you to close it ( during rain ) and have it draw air from your already open stock airbox ( like it is now ) that would be more feasible. But that'* my 2 cents and maybe wrong as for how much oil may be pealted off.. just be careful

dude that carbon fiber is too ricey

As long as you set up some sort of baffle you will be fine. Really the biggest advantage will be the temp. The actual "ram" part is a farce at the speeds we go. The biggest advantage is the tube set up and the temp. Once you are in the 350-400hp range then ram air will add some real change to your hp.


One other point for each degree of change from an exact perpendicular intake you lose large amounts of efficiency in your ram air system. This is why dragsters have huge scoops jutting out of the hood. They are mathematically more effective.

I'll probably make a door or something for when it rains, it that would probably be the easiest solution. I'll also try and make a passage for the air to go that points it perpendicularly right into the filter. I'll be doing alot of highway driving soon (hopefully not in rush hour :? ) so I'm probably set for the speed thing. I plan to heat shield everything too, so that will help.

zzzzzeke, as for the carbon fiber part, i was definatly planing on painting that black, Aside form it being ricey, it dosen't match anything on my car at all. It'* damn hard to find these things in the first place and this is the closest i found to what i want.

Also, If i switched over to a CAI w/ a heat shield around it when i do the ram air thing, will it be all that benifical? The air coming from the hood would probably have a harder time getting into the filter wouldn't it?

Well.. I really don't know if that will work unless you find a way to maybe rig it up to the front of those cone filters that has an opening at the top. As far the ductin idea.. just make sure the air is laminar and is straight as possible.

to get rid of the water, could you put some sort of a curve in it and then a drin to collect and get rid of the water? Maybe then put some sort of filter behind the water collector to stop the wter vapor.

I'm with other dude, to ricey, and to much trouble than it'* worth.

At this point Domestic Performance is working with a top end carbon fiber hood builder that has built some very fine products. We are going to set up a deal that will be added or replace the hoods. Ill set up a separate post later on.

So go for it and rain will not be a huge issue if you set up a by pass.

Well.. here'* a quick question I was thinkin of... if the ram air was successful ( by whatever means even if it includes removing the driver side headlight on the track ). What should we expect to see on the boost gauge? Less Boost? since the air is already being compressed ( rammed ) before entering the TB .
