Default Review/How-To: Replace EPROM

Since there is no way of us 92-94 SE/SSE brothers to get a Jet Chip, I decided to post this thread on a custom Superchip and how to go about it. This is always kinda a review of me testing the stock EPROM and the custom Superchip I had burned for me.
Lets begin...

Before you start! Disconnect the positive terminal on your battery, then unscrew the passenger side kick panel. The silver computer box is to the right, near the fuse box. Just push the clamps holding box in place INTO the carpet and pull the computer towards you and down. Just work with it. Then...

1.) First off get your computer out and disconnect the wire harnesses...


2.) Now open up the panel held on with 2 torx screws...


3.) Ta da! Its all green inside (that doesn't mean its fast willwren)


4.) Pull the out chip out by pushing in the 2 clips on the outside...
Yes I am pulling the Superchip out there, this was for reviewing purposes.


5.) Choices...


6.) Put the new chip in. It only goes in one way because of safty notches and then close the box back up...


7.) Connect the harnesses back up. Its all color coating so you won't screw anything up. Good ol' red, white, and blue!


8.) Usually you want to put the box back into place and everything, but for testing purposes I left it on the carpet...


This is what I discovered after being totally blind to it.
The custom burned Superchip DOES actually do more than I ever noticed (due to anger months ago). The custom chip gives noticable power at lower speeds, especially off the line...I just spin the tires for a few seconds (yeah, I'm getting Yoko'* come summer). Next, the chip also helps out through out the whole powerband, but heres the best part...
The chip creates a "artificial" short shifter within my gearing. At WOT, the tranny shifts quick and crisply. It doesn't try to slowly decide to shift into a higher gear, it just DOES IT!
Finally, the chip raises how high the rpms will raise untill the tranny decides to shift by a few hundred rpms. Sadly, the speed limiter is not rasied. I can live because the only time I got close to 110mph was when I was doing a mile long race with a '75 Plymouth Duster.

One last thing I noticed, I was sitting in park and compared revving with the custom chip with the stock chip. And believe it or not, the custom chip made the rpms raise faster...may sound like I'm stretching it beyond belief, but I know what I saw, and I saw this. :P

So all in all...the chip puts a nice increase on the performance edge of the 3800 NA, however the price tag just ain't worth it. So what shall you do? Tune your NA with other aftermarket parts to achieve the same results with a better bang for the buck.

This may seem depressing for us NA owners, but get your head up. The options and ideas to originality are out there waiting for you!

Good review, K. Sounds very much like my impressions of the Jet. Your pics didn't come out though! I'm kinda curious to see if the 93 and 94 had the same puter.

Try refreshing the page a few times or going back to performance, then reclicking the thread. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll just yell at yahoo.

There yah go!

I looked at the pictures and that is exactly what mine was like! The Jet chip looked exactly like those two chips! Now maybe you guys can understand why it was impossible to piggyback it! It was just like Allmachtige'* superchip, just remove and replace.

Well, now you all understand why my car is so fast! Not just because it'* green but since I have a piggyback chip, I have TWO PCM'* in my car!

Looks just the same, but guts might be different. Location is the same, too. It didn't move til 96 I think?
