Default Port your LIM? Results?

Moderators, use your 'force' to move this if need be.

I'm having a hard time stopping myself from porting my LIM. I've heard that a few of them have failed... but I don't understand how it'* possible for a rod bearing to fail once you've ported your LIM, unless you didn't re-assemble correctly and mixed coolant into the the oil.

So for those of you who have ported your LIM, how did it come out? How many people experienced a lower motor failure? If it did fail, what kind of setup are you running? If it didn't fail... once again what kind of setup are you running?

I'm really curious and anxious. and am into cheap horsepower lol.

P.*. I'm hoping this would give me some more much needed low end torque.

I ported mine after I had a rod bearing spin after I replaced an UIM. Combined with my modified UIM runners and other mods in my sig, the motor pulls real hard at 4000+ RPM. And at 60mph+ it really seems to shine. The throttle response is greatly improved. All this was done at once, so I cant say what made the biggest difference

I'd like to know how on earth a ported LIM can cause a bottom end failure. Can you please take the time to explain that so I understand why you're so oddly frightened by something like this?

You port the runners that the air (intake charge) flows through. No changes are made to the gasket mating surface.

I firstdi a gasket match from the intake port on the head to port on the LIM, then i use did a full port job on the lower intake trying to keep the C.*.A. constant throughout the port.

I didnt have time to through it on the flow bench becasu i didnt have a compatible radius plate made up.

But acording to the Butt dyno, it seems to have picked up on thorttle response, but more noticeable it picked up from 3500-7000rpm.

HOWEVER, the heads that i use have been reworked to orperate at high(er) rpm then the rest of the L36'*. I open the runners up in volume and have opened up the minimum CSA to 2.1 square inches.

Will,

I don't know how... that'* why I'm asking. I've heard of two-ish people that have had it happen though lol. I'm just thinking that something went wrong in re-assembling it.

Alright... well it seems that porting LIM really has no negatives, other than previous problems and improper re-assembly. So, I shall go pick up an LIM and port it before I got the intake pulled apart so I can take my time on it. I've had a few people PM me with offers for an LIM... hope they still have it lol.

get your self a gasketkit so that you can make sure that you dont make the port too big.

On a case that you cant port the heads at the same time, i would want the port in the LIM to be smallr then the intake port on the head
