HP goes down as temps increase right? So How Much Of A Temp Drop And HP gain Should I Expect From Installing A Competition Radiator?

well your thermostat, fans, and pcm are going to play a part in cooling the engine. Temps will only go as low the thermostat for starters. Unless your at a certain temp, or your AC is on, the high speed fans wont just run to really cool the engine. You can do the high speed fan mod, allowing you to turn them on with a switch. I think lowering the temps too low can mess with the pcm also. I dont think you will gain horsepower, but you will prevent heatsoak.

Well Thanks 308. After Warm Up My Operating Temp Stays Put @ 220. I Have A Drilled 180 Thermostat That Isnt In Yet. A 195 Is In Now. I Had A Bad Cooling System Leak And Like A Fool I Added A Couple Jars Of Stop Leak! I Have Since Been Told That Basically Ruined My Radiator. So It Needs Replacing. I Work @ A Radiator Shop And Pay Only 10% Over Cost. Is It Worth Forking Over The Extra Dough For A High perf. Rad? As Far As The Fans Go I Just Dont Know. They Do Not Come On After I Shut Off The Ignition.

Also I Know The Pcm Is Tuned For 180 And For That Matter I Now Recall That The Temp Stays Put At About 200 When I Use The High Perf Pcm. So If I Can Keep It At 180 Will My 1/4 Mi Time Improve? I Do Plan To Race @ WCBF 07. BTW will we see you there this year? And Congrats On COTM 1/06!

Ok.. Please fill us in on your "high perf pcm", this is new to me and I'd like to learn more about it. Linky please.

As for a competition radiator.. I'm unsure the sizing on them. The stop leak was distriubuted throughout your cooling system, not only the radiator and I wouldn't believe it will do great harm. Might plug a couple holes in the system though. How bad were your coolant leaks? You want to make sure all normal maintenance items are up to speed before modding and trying to go faster. Otherwise you have a car that breaks down from something you didn't maintain and your performance parts are worthless.

As for the 220 degrees. Do you know if your gauge is accurate at all? You need a scanner to be sure.

The Leak Was The Water Pump... Replaced. Go Look Up Gmtuners.Com Bill. It Was Very Affordable. Trick Is To Have A Backup Pcm/chip While Yours Is Being Burned. $25 At U Pull It. There Is A Need For Some Special Data. I Opted Out Of Using Scan Data. Prolly Would Be Better If I Had Had It.

While the stop leak stuff does add and sit in the system somewhere..I doubt it'll harm the cooling.

not to worry stop leak dissolves after a couple of weeks, you dont need a radiator either the 180 drilled is a good starting point but save the money and head to your local store and get a adjustable fan thermostat, its basicly a stand alone fan system and turns on the fans at 180 degrees. and for like 50 bucks its much cheaper than getting your Prom chip reprogramed
