Default Review: MAF Screen Removal

If you have any aftermarket intake, do this!

I have a simple Pro Zen Motorsports intake I bought off ebay for $100 (I still recommend the ADTR CAI for even BETTER results) which acts simply as a ram air "CAI". Anyway, today I decided to remove the MAF intake screen and holy cow! Why didn't I do this earlier?! Very simple procedure:

1.) Take your CAI out and you will see the MAF screen in the TB
2.) Use a small flat head screw driver and gently pry off the metal "O" ring that keeps the screen in place. Be careful, its almost razor sharp and is fragile.
3.) Bend a small office use paperclip with a slight hook in it. Then fit the paperclip through an opening in the screen near the outer edge and fit the hook through (not a real 90 degree hook, but a slight bend). Pull the paperclip out at a forcful angle to pop the MAF out. Just work with it more and more with the clip or you can use your fingernails to pull it out.

Just be careful not to touch anything inside! And be gentle with the screen and keep bending of the honeycomb structure at a minimum.

Again, I highly recommend this if you have an aftermarket intake system. After I did this I noticed better response when going into sudden WOT and an improvement in overall acceleration.

Good to hear positives about the MAF screen. I hope we can put this subject to rest finally rather than having a new thread every week about it. Perhaps now we can convince people to do newer exhaust systems from the header all the way back to those shiny stainless steel tips. (hint, hint)

Default Intake and MAF screen.

I di the same this past Sat. only I used the PVC with a K&N filter. What material is yours constructed with and did you put in a jumper for your cold air sensor. I've got about $40 in filter and parts in mine. Wish I'd thought about the paperclip as I buggered up my screen.

All... great idea on the paper clip.. wish I thought of that earlier too...
But just a reminder to anyone that may want to do this, try to pry the bottom part of the screen because the MAF sensor is on the top, and the last thing you need is to break any of them delicate wires.

Its a 3" aluminum pipe with a K&N style cone filter, gaskets, clamps, the whole 9 yards. Just not nearly as good as ADTR CAI (ADTR didn't exist when I bought it, ). I had a resistor in the IAT, but what good does it do in the cold? None. Also my computer just recalibrated itself after a few hundred miles with it in anyway.
