Default warranty and cold air intake question

hey guys, first post. sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question, but i have a new 2012 camaro ss and am going to install a cold air intake. my dealer told me a cold air intake was fine to do and will not void the warranty with them.

my bigger concern is that for the camaro the cold air intake has a complimentary mod which is a scoop to allow cool outside air in towards the filter. installing this scoop means buying a smaller windshield wiper fluid reservoir and removing the stock one.

i'm concerned that if i do this relocation and GM sees it, they will throw a fit and not warranty my car. i could understand if they did not want to warranty the windshield wiper fluid motor, but do you think there is a chance they would just not warranty anything out of spite? i emailed my salesguy (the same one that OK'd the CAI) and he didn't respond, but i imagine he just doesn't understand the mod and therefore doesn't want to guess at the answer.

thanks for any help.

There is a law against that. They have to prove that the mod you did caused the malfunction. So no, it won't be a problem.

I guess they could make a stink, but shouldn't be a problem. Read your warranty. Years ago I put a air scoop on my Fiero, and it came in because I blew the engine. They looked at it, but said nothing about it.

They might deny a warranty claim on your engine if your scoop is mounted low and because of this it sucks in water if you go thru a puddle and you hydrolock your engine - but as long as you have comp/collision with a reputable insurance company, that would be covered by your insurance. I have been a claims manager at a major insurance company for 10 years, we see these claims every time we get a significant rain storm, they usually get called in after the dealer denies replacing the motor due to the low air scoop but we cover it (less deductible)...

I doubt there would be an issue, but keep the old parts and re-install them if you ever have a warranty claim.

I wouldn't worry about it, I work at a GM dealer, never denied warranty due to a cold air intake. Just make sure you get the dry one with no oil. Have seen the oiled ones screw up the MAF readings.

That'* why I have a MAF with a lifetime warranty. If I ever happen to over-oil my filter and cleaning the sensor doesn't work, I'll just exchange it at O'Reilly.
