93 NA to SC parts compatibility

The parts car I'm getting alledgedly has a blown motor. More specifically, the bottom end. The seller described a "BOOM" while driving and the oil pan seperated from the block. I have some ideas that I wanted to run by other members to find out about easy compatibility.

Exhaust manifolds:
I wanted to remove the exhaust manifolds from my SSEi, open them up a bit and send them to Performance Coatings for a ceramic treatment. If the ones on the NA engine are the same, I would prefer to do this to the spare manifolds instead. Any information on cross compatibility?

Heads:
This might be alot of fun... an extra set to play around with. These could be P&P'ed, rockers changed, etc for increased performance. Can NA heads be bolted up to a SC engine?

Throttle body:
Just to have a spare. I think I'm going to swap the IAC right away to see if that corrects my intermittent high idle problem but I'm interested in compatibility of the TB itself for later down the road.

Power steering return line/cooler
This is leaking in my car. It currently dosen't have a finned cooler but a wandering steel line that runs along the front of the subframe. I'm wondering how much cooling it actually does. The parts car has a small finned cooler in-line with the return line. This is similar to jrs3800 pic which I will try to find again and link. The pumps are different between NA and SC motors so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with swaping.

I'm sure there's more but that's all I can think of for now
Thanks.

I don't have alot of time here, so I'll hit a few I know off the top of my head.

Exhaust manifolds are the same part number in my book.

Unsure about the TB, but a few measurements will tell you. Good to keep a spare. You don't want to know what a new one costs, and the last I heard, they're no longer made. I priced one at a wrecker last year, and it came to $500. Then again, this isn't a part that would ever fail unless something fell on your car. They can be easily rebuilt.

Power steering line.....probably not. Because of the differing locations, it may not reach. The SSEi also uses a different rack, so I don't know about the diameters. FYI, both my car and Jseabert's SSE have the finned inline cooler.

TB is the same, i've had both the MAF and all were the same.

You're heads are ported differently so you'd be doing some P&P work.

SC heads have injector bosses drilled into them ;)

Thanks for the input, guys. It seems like the heads won't do me any good, Bummer.

Interesting. The guy at the dealer called up a diagram that showed the finned cooler but said that it was for the non SC setup. I might want to explore this a little further with you before I order something fron GMPD.

Correct.....on the reply ;) Only the Series 2 SC heads have the injector bosses in them. Our Series 1 injectors are in the lower intake manifold.

I posted this in another thread but I compared my heads to pictures from the Aussie n/a heads and everything matches up. Now I'm not sure if they're off 0.01" somewhere but as far as coolant ports, bolt holes, and other markers its all the same.

BonneMeMn - Could you elaborate a little on: "You're heads are ported differently so you'd be doing some P&P work." ?

BonneMeMN 09-27-2004 08:30 PM

I've heard that L27 Head/LIM ports are different from L67 Head/LIM ports.

DrJay 09-27-2004 08:45 PM

Where are you getting all your info on heads? First the s/c heads are stronger somehow (never told me how), now the ports are different. I'm not saying you're wrong but I've never heard that.

Like I said, when I compared what pictures I have to what pictures were provided they matched up. If you have pics of the intake side I'd be happy to compare and see....?
